What happens when you play ranked between seasons? Can you still climb? Will it affect your MMR for your placement matches next season?

Yes you can still climb and yes it will affect you MMR for next season's placement's.
EDIT: Whatever progress you get now will not change the ranked rewards, only your ranked MMR.
Here is the question I always had though...
What is the benefit to play ranked between now and reset?
Lets take for instance, you're newly 30 (just hit it today). Let's also say that your skill level is about Gold - Plat. Why would you want to get yourself to a higher MMR before the reset? Wouldn't that just mean that you are playing against harder teams once placements start? Wouldn't it be more advantageous to just sit at your current bronze-silver MMR level and play those level of players to possibly get 10 wins come placements?
