ADC Tips?

Looking for some tips on how to adc better, mainly whenever a team fight breaks out I find myself staring down at a tank as the only person in range for me to attack. When I do this my team flames and says "GG ADC focusing tank like a moron." But if I reposition myself to target a squishier target I often find myself getting focused because now I'm away from my team and I die anyways? I can farm pretty well so I'm usually at least even in games unless I get shut down or camped, but I'm rarely fed so I can't just go ham on a tank and watch them melt. So I'm trying to figure out how I should I team fight better?

Be nice to your support.

But in more serious terms, I main support. One of my pet peeves is when an ADC tunnel visions on the CS so much that they neglect to position properly. They then get grabbed by a hand/hook/anchor and then they either lose a massive chunk of their hp or they die. So position yourself in such a way that there is always a minion between you and the enemy support or stand behind your support. The only time you don't want to do this is against a Miss Fortune or a Bard. The strategy still remains the same in team fights stay in the back of the line. Poke the enemy down. You and your mage should be at the back. The support should be in the middle of the formation or if you have an assassin instead of a mage they also belong mid. Front liners are juggernauts, bruisers and tanks. stand behind these and do not break formation unless absolutely necessary.

When you are standing around pacing the lane and there's no minions low enough to last hit take a look at your own minions. Which one is low enough that the enemy wants to try and last hit them? Try and protect that minion. Make them choose between avoiding your damage or losing the CS gold. Either way they lose something. This is how to properly trade and this is how you get an advantage. Get them low enough and they play passively giving you an edge in lane. Get them playing this way long enough and you win the lane. You can effectively get more gold through this tactic alone than outright killing them. It takes longer but its a safer and more reliable method of coming out on top. When its a boring farm lane employ this tactic. Your support will hopefully buff, peel and disengage for you as they see fit.

Just because you're the ADC doesn't mean you have a free pass to neglect buying wards. Buy a pink ward at some point and place it in your tri-bush or in dragon pit or your side bush or wherever. And wards can be the difference between barely missing a kill and securing a kill. I have seen many of my ADCs lose a last hit on an enemy because they went into a bush and then they yelled at me for not having it warded when I used up all my wards already. Supports may have a sight stone but unless they are backing frequently those wards do run out.

Be aware of the 3 styles of laning: Kill, Poke & sustain. Every champion has one style they excel at, one they can pull off to some degree and one that are weak or unable to do. Most ADCs are Kill/Poke or Poke/Kill with the exception of Sivir (Poke/sustain) and Urgot (Kill/sustain). Keeping this in mind figure out that Kill beats sustain, sustain beats poke and poke beats kill.

And in draft mode know your counter picks properly. Picking Ezreal/Blitzcrank into a Morgana/Sivir is a silly decision. Spell shields will counter your poke/grab combo and they will outlast you in lane and chip away your health via their own poke. Take into consideration the above paragraph. If the enemy picks a kill lane comp get a poke lane comp going with some sustain and outlast them. And pick an ADC that has some synergy with the support you have on your team. Anything is workable but something like Bard and Draven takes much more effort to pull off than say Thresh and Draven or Ashe and Braum.

Well first thing's first: CS makes a huge difference. Makes sure to get tons of CS and practice in customs.

As for your teammates, forget what they say. In a team fight, ADC are meant to kill the enemy tank, no one else can. That doesn't mean you have to absolutely always target the tank though, if their ADC, support or what not is severely caught out and a more valuable target, then yes, attack them instead. In team fights, you just want to make sure you're safe and behind your own front line attacking whatever is closest to you. After all, it's better you're dealing damage to the tank or anyone, rather than dying getting only two shots on their mid-lander.

You really just want to be outputting as much damage as possible while being safe as possible (longer alive = more damage).

And one more thing. Force a fight when you see the enemy support is leaving their ADC to go ward the river. Bard supports are notorious for doing this stuff so when they leave exploit the 2v1 situation.
