Recommend Me a Top Champ

When I first started, I tried Illaoi while she was on free rotation and LOVED playing her so much that I bought her. Appearance, story, etc. is all perfect for me. However, I don't love her low mobility and to be honest, I need variety. Especially if she's banned. Here's what I like and who I've tried:

Like: Mobility, massive damage, helping hands (as in Illaoi's tentacles or Zyra's flowers, and someone who can roam easier. I like to be able to help the other laners once my first tower falls, but then it's going back and forth to try and help and I end up losing MY tower, and while I'm heading back to protect my lane, the OTHER laners tower falls and I feel responsible. [sg-soraka]

I've tried: Illaoi (obviously) Poppy (I like her a LOT but I swear, she's kind of squishy?? I might be wrong, but I need to get closer to the enemy champ and they stomp me) Nasus (I didn't do any damage with him, even full build. I've seen powerful Nasus', so either's he not right for me or...) Malphite (I'm decent with him unless I'm stuck against someone like Illaoi with lots of ranged or someone faster.) Camille (she was on free rotation, I tried, got my ass kicked. This might have just been me, again, I'll see what you all say.) Fiora (I can't do ANYTHING WITH HER. She's one of the most challenging champ I've played.)

Alright. Help me, oh great LoL boards. [sg-syndra] For what it's worth, Mid is my fav lane.

Oh come on, the only top laner you should ever want, obviously. Riven But honestly if you want someone who doesn't really have too much to worry about in top lane, Yorick is your best bet. Just buy trinity force into ZZ rot and you can go wherever you need to. I go dark harvest but most people go grasp. Getting to people late game can be kind of hard but you're a splitpush champ so you can just set up your splitpush and demolish towers.

Every Yorick main: "REEEEEEEEEE"

item 3078 -> item 3060 / item 3053

Banner sucks and is only useful in OFA though pretty much. Also with ingenious hunter and that other rune you can have 2 ZZrots out at the same time.

Banner is grossly underestimated.

You know why Banner is better than Zzrot? 3 reasons:

  1. Better stats: Gives 15 less MR but +30 Armor and +10% CDR
  2. Cheaper!: Costs 500 less gold
  3. Better active

Here's why the active is better: Zzrot has shorter range now, meaning if you want it to do anything to turrets you have to pretty much already be sieging a turret. You can also use it to protect turrets from waves that you know are gonna be autopushing towards you soon.

Banner however can be used anywhere in a lane to cause that lane to start shoving while you can do stuff elsewhere, though its pure tower destruction capabilities are much lower.

Why would Yorick want autopushing power as opposing to tower destruction power? Macro. Yorick is not a splitpush champion, he is a macro champion. His gameplay revolves around forcing enemy macro decisions around the map and taking advantage of bad decisions (which is easy in solo Q).

Yorick can already cause lanes to hard shove on their own by spawning ghouls or maiden in a lane. Banner lets him effectively shove every lane simultaneously if he wants to or let's him use Banner in the place of Maiden for autopushing so he can save Maiden for himself. (You make a banner minion from the base, spawn maiden outside the base in another lane, and then push the third lane yourself or just spawn ghouls in it).

When all 3 lanes are pushing, the enemy has to respond to them and if they don't then you get whichever turret they don't respond to and if they do then you take dragon/baron while they are preoccupied. It's all about overwhelming the opponent with macro.

And to top it off now we have the insane Baron cannon minion + banner interaction, making banner just the overall better choice.

By the time baron spawns you could have both, and honestly banner minions always seem to die WAY faster than a ZZrot portal. I suppose you could try to stealth one in there, but generally a top laner will respond fast enough, or the banner minion will die to tower, and you'll have to wait the same amount of time to spawn another. A Banner minion is one thing, a zzrot continuously spawns and pushes a wave. As a first(well second) item, it just seems better. Sure, I wouldn't pass up the chance to buy banner, but ZZrot helps you get first tower for sure(it pushes from your tower to the enemy tower pretty easily). Helping you establish that much dominance is pretty nice.

While yes a top laner can easily go up and dispatch a banner minion, the fact is they HAVE to go up and dispatch it, they don't have a choice. And that's why it's such a strong item, it forces the opponent to move to a certain spot on the map.

Idk how to explain why Zzrot's active is worse. It just doesn't have enough range anymore so unless you put it near a tower it isn't really gonna affect it. It still creates the wave pushing scenario, but in a much softer case compared to Banner (once again, unless placed right in front of a tower). But if you place it close to a turret that means you had to go up there to place it, meaning you wasted just as much of your own time setting it up as you're gonna be wasting the enemy's time taking it down.

I guess the reason I think it's better is because you don't have to go out of your way to plant it. You just put it on a minion from base and then go to another lane, no real setup time required.

After testing I realized apparently Banner is miles better than zzrot. It's actually a little crazy. I also didn't know promoted minions gave you gold. You probably get more gold from zzrot though if you were to put it on a wave that was actually pushing. I didn't realize one promoted minion did more than a billion little void creatures. Of course, this was without any kind of opponent. I still feel like in a different scenario against an actual laner, zzrot is much better(unless that opponent uses only magic damage). Maybe I should play some Yorick to test ingenious hunter with banner and see if it actually does better in practice, but I still feel like zzrot wins overall because I generally use it to bait a laner to come for it and kill them. It's much easier than being kited into oblivion and it allows me to just push down towers by myself really well.

Have you ever played Ezreal top?

http://www.auplod.com/u/pdolua802d6.png

I have actually. With Muramana/Seraph's Embrace/Gunblade/Lich Bane. Took a very long time to stack both of those but once I got them I was one shotting like crazy. Also it's definitely not easy with no real waveclear.

Update: Tested with banner second item instead of zzrot. Honestly didn't feel a very big impact compared to ZZrot. When I got ZZrot I was leaving them over the map, and Orianna was scared to go alone so it was usually her with Pantheon.Whereas if I put banner out the banner minion ended up dying most of the time before being able to properly take towers or push enough to take them(I also got first tower before I got banner, so I guess that probably had some to do with it as well). Yeah, people had to go kill them, but it didn't take that long and most of the time my team was dying to theirs. Honestly it came down to me vs Pantheon and while he was roaming I was taking towers. Eventually I was nearly one shotting their carries though. the stuns from Karma and Pantheon(or is Karma's a root? Idr) were really annoying to deal with but it wasn't that difficult to take over the game. It took longer than I expected though because my team didn't want to protect our Ashe and she usually ended up all alone. Diana and Talon just wanted to go try to one shot people. Eventually Ashe splitpushed bot while I splitpushed top and we won though.

The main thing with banner is just being able to set it in another lane while you split a different lane and ur team splits the last one. It's just to divide attention without wasting any of your precious time in setup.

But yeah, it doesn't work if it doesn't get taken advantage of. Like if ur team doesn't put pressure so they just kill banner for free and then go to the lane ur team is in.

Also always put banner on a ranged or melee minion, that way they don't lose health from minion aggro as they push. Dunno if u were already doing this. Just never put it on a melee.

Banner minions won't really take a turret on their own though, the reason I use it is to both divide attention and if attention is focused elsewhere, to teleport to the banner wave to take the turret they're on.

And yeah dude, that Yorick Q damage is pretty nuts huh? lol. No squishy expects it to do over half their health.

I mean I play Yorick from time to time. I probly currently have a 100% win rate on him I believe. But yeah his Q damage hurts, especially when you do what I like to do and go Dark Harvest.

I'd say Gnar. He's a really fun champ who's good at dueling is usually ranged, and has good mobility and roaming potential.

Camille Mobility, massive damage, can roam easier Gangplank massive damage, doesn't end up losing tower (,hard to learn) Shen Mobility, can roam easier, doesn't end up losing tower Jax Mobility, massive damage, can roam easier Jayce Mobility, massive damage, can roam easier Galio decent damage if AP, doesn't end up losing tower, can roam easier

Personally I liked Darius Renekton . Darius with the dunks, Renek as lane bully (dash, stun, Q, dash out), tho the meta doesn't exactly favor them right now (maybe in 8.6 with new keystone)

Yorick massive damage and super helping hands you can get tower easy and then roam. You can use your ult to push top while you push bot and your team is 4v4 or 4v3 mid because they have to answer your push on multiple fronts.

Heimerdinger ap version of illaoi. Set up your nest and make melees cry.

Roaming

Pantheon win lane roam win other lanes close out pre 30 minutes with major split pressure and global map presence on the second tier turrets for team fights where you can force 4v5

Shen Tanky pantheon. Decent dueling, ult to help teammates and to back to lane so you never lose tower

Kled strong early, big engage pressure.bait your enemy and kill them with a half hp skaarl from 5%

Sion tank version of kled with oodles of damage but less "turn around" wins in fights

Also Camille has a hard macro oriented learning curve

Mordekaiser has the best helper in the game, and is one of the best farmers in the game. He shines in skirmishes (2v2 and 3v3), so roams are natural, he scales incredibly well, plus you get the "wtf is this champion" going for you. However keep in mind no cc or real mobility to speak of. Shen because reasons Singed depends on if you want to directly help your teammates in fights or just drag their entire team back into base to kill you. Sion Crazy AD scalings so if your team lacks in some burst a long range R Q W E can one shot if they are squishy and you built a ton of AD.

Bob the Toastr1 votes

If you're okay with squishies, I would suggest Quinn for the roaming potential. You don't even have to take tp because of ult, so you can take ignite for early kill pressure.

Don't worry, even in high elo making use of Illaoi is difficult. She's amazing in teamfights, but that means you're relying on your team to actually teamfight, which is alot harder than you'd think.

Jax is probably your best bet. Easy to pick up, strong as hell, very mobile and flexible.

If you don't mind a small bit of a learning curve, go ahead and try your hand at the other 3.

honestly if you just want to have fun and be really mobile, i'd recommend Kayn but you go with rhaast instead of shadow assassin and just do full ad. run electrocute and first item should be item 3071 followed byitem 3142 ,item 3147 ,item 3812

You'd probally like urgod. He has one mobility spell and one slow, and instead of a tentakill minigame you play shotgun roulette.
