Aatrox Buffs

GingerKing12··47 votes·4,890 views

What happened to the buffs to Aatrox that Riots said were coming two different times and still haven't shown up?

They first told us it would be during the preseason. Nothing.

Then they told us it would be some time in January. Well its January 24th and still no buffs.

Please Riot where are the buffs to my favorite champ?

If Yasuo is lung cancer then aatrox would be a tumor combined with stomach, lung, cervical and prostate cancer.

Aatrox's entire kit resolves around outstatchecking which is literally one of the most unhealthiest game mechanics possible. There is no interaction against an aatrox. You have more stats or you don't. It's not the same with Yasuo.

Squey2 votes

Exactly. I wish people would stop asking for aatrox buffs. As it is i still see him get some play in plat as a jungler usually. I also had the misfortune of versing him in lane. He ofcourse won because if u cant 100-0 aatrox and still have enough for round 2 ( his passive) then he wins the trade due to easy sustain while u have to back.
His kit is way to op and just plain stupid to ever be in a good place. Best to keep him down low till his rework.

Slave Knight4 votes

You lost because you actually have never played against a good Aatrox before, it's the same with any other champion. Aatrox is pretty strong in the early game but judging from your champions: Darius, Renekton and Pantheon I don't see how you could be complaining about the laning phase lol. Besides Pantheon who straight up will destroy Aatrox in lane, the other two lanes are similarly in your favour.

If I asked you what made his kit o/p what would you say? Because if it's only his sustain then Darius and Renekton, for tanky champions with more reliable ways to kill also have good amounts of sustain too, nearly equalling mine in the late game end game screen. However, if you factor in that most of the time my sustain is coming from minions and not being able to tank and take on 5 other guys whilst sustaining through all of them, I can't see how my sustain is any better than yours.

Also a little hint on playing against Aatrox - If you deny him sustain he's going to lose the lane. If you pop his passive, he is going to be on kill health and you can easily kill him again because he will have 0 passive attack speed and to charge it up he has to use more health in which he does not have to spend carelessly. Also his cooldowns are pretty long so most of the time he's just going to try and auto attack.

Ugh, I hate fighting against Aatrox mains. They always make me look like a complete buffoon.

invisiblecat18 votes

Not even close Aatrox doesn't have a shield, dash on 0.1 second cooldown AND 100% crit Aatrox just sustains a little and revives, which many champions can already do with a zilean and warlords

Slave Knight16 votes

This is why I hate Aatrox posts, it disappoints me how stupid the community is. From an Ex-Aatrox player's own mouth: "If Yasuo is lung cancer then aatrox would be a tumor combined with stomach, lung, cervical and prostate cancer."

I can't even. I don't remember when the last time Aatrox was complained about for actually being good let alone oppressive.

"Aatrox's entire kit resolves around outstatchecking which is literally one of the most unhealthiest game mechanics possible. There is no interaction against an aatrox. You have more stats or you don't. It's not the same with Yasuo."

The only 'good' feature about his kit is as you said Invisiblecat, a little sustain a revive and a decent steroid passive to help with the sustain. To actually think that this guy thinks Yasuo, is not a statcheck champion is fucking hilarious. He's not only a statcheck, he statchecks with insane cost efficiency AND you get the same "no interaction" with yasuo because he has an answer to EVERYTHING you do. With Aatrox his ONLY answer is sustain - if you lock him up he can't sustain, if you build executioners he sustains less, if you build randuins he sustains less, if you avoid him he sustain less. Let's look at Yasuo now, if you lock him up - oh wait you first actually have to catch his speedy arse and hope his windwall is on cooldown and that he doesn't have a minion wave. Er what about executioners? He doesn't even need sustain to statcheck your ass but even if he does build that bt along the way, exe won't mean much when he is hard critting you down. What about randuins? Randuins is definitely a good buy against him but if or rather when he lands his ult on you, prepare to spread your arse cheeks cause now he has armor pen.

Like seriously, are we really comparing Yasuo to Aatrox and saying Yasuo is more healthier than Aatrox? LUL wtf happened to you people.

Pinkstripe1 votes

I too want an Aatrox buff, but really, I don't play Yasuo very much and I can tell he takes skill. I mean, AoE knockup ult 100% crit armor pen dashes shield kms Aids cancer bleach is the progression from Challenjour to Bronz yasuo is, other wise he just derps through the minion wave and missed autos

Slave Knight9 votes

Of course he takes skill, he takes way more skill than Aatrox no doubt but I'm not comparing skill ceilings and floors, I'm comparing just their kits. With that said, I cannot see how anyone can objectively say Yasuo does not have too much in his kit or how Aatrox has too much in his.

If I asked you what was your most frustrating thing about Aatrox it would probably his sustain or revive right? Well let's say we removed it - congrats you've actually made the most worthless Auto Attack champion in the game. He now has 0 defensive steroids and his niche for sustain is gone. He auto attacks for no real purpose and has health costs.

Now If I asked you what was your most frustrating thing about Yasuo, what would it be? His Crit Passive? His Shield Passive? Even if we removed both he still has armor pen on his ult, a long ranged cc that he can hold to zone you off, good mobility and an auto attack reset - you might actually see bruiser yasuo become the real build if this were to occur. The fact that he has so many frustrating things about his kit and even if you removed 1 or 2 it wouldn't changed how annoying he is to fight against just flat out tells us that he has too much.

Not saying nerf Yasuo but tell me his kit isn't overloaded. Or better yet tell me Aatrox has a more overloaded kit than Yasuo. This is some actual hehexd shit right here.

Spaceman5pff2 votes

I don't think anybody is saying Aatrox has too much in his kit. I think the objection to a strong Aatrox is that he relies on sustaining through your damage. That is fine, but he doesn't do it by landing skillshots or effectively juking damage.

No. He does it by having more stats than you, turning his W to heal mode, and turning on auto-target while he walks to the kitchen and grabs some Pizza Rolls.

Like yeah, Yasuo is bullshit. But a strong Aatrox would be a greater magnitude of bullshit.

Slave Knight1 votes

I think you're mistaking a strong Aatrox for a blatantly overtuned Aatrox. For Aatrox to be out-sustaining anyone (outside of laning phase against a non sustain champion) without the help of items is when I can say for sure, that he's broken. In his current state however, he barely heals for all the much if you want to compare him to other sustain champions (WW, Xin, Irelia, Darius, etc).

"I think the objection to a strong Aatrox is that he relies on sustaining through your damage. That is fine, but he doesn't do it by landing skillshots or effectively juking damage." I don't know why you wrote this to be honest. All ADCS heal off point and click autos with increased efficiency for every damage + crit item they buy. Yasuo does the same but at a melee range + decent range from his q with immense steroids to bolster him up. Xin, WW and Irelia have their healing toggled on all the time and are decently tanky whereas Aatrox is the only champion who actually has to choose between doing damage and healing lol... There is no champion in the game who is rewarded for sustain by "landskill shots or effectively juking" iirc.

"He does it by having more stats than you, turning his W to heal mode, and turning on auto-target while he walks to the kitchen and grabs some Pizza Rolls." Aatrox because he is a health based champion with his only steroid being attack speed needs to invests in A LOT of stats to stat check you. "Stat Checking" the way you're referring to, seems to be having two champions sit side by side hitting each other until one person dies. Unfortunately this rarely at all happens in the game anymore and with damage being much greater than it was in the past, fights end in seconds. In this case, why would you pick a sustain dps champion when you could have just blown up your target with high amounts of burst damage?

Spacedude, I think I get where you're coming from though. If Aatrox were to be buffed or made into a state where he is realistically "strong" and not "decent" he could become a problem. I just doubt thit will happen though because his kit simply lacks more than just numbers, he literally can't keep up with the game.

Spaceman5pff2 votes

Literally the entire point of this thread is inquiring about Aatrox buffs.

The entire IDEA of this specific comment chain is "Aatrox would be unhealthy for the game if buffed up"

The VERY REASON everyone knows Aatrox cannot be allowed to be strong is because as you said, "all he has in numbers."

He is a statcheck machine, and that is why he cannot be allowed to be strong.

I think your issue here, is you are trying to tell me I am wrong, but then say I am wrong because my point is correct.

Slave Knight1 votes

I'm not even saying it's 100% necessary for Aatrox to even be buffed, I'm just saying it would be nice to be buffed. You're telling me if he ever got buffed he would be broken but that's assuming they "buff" him purely through either giving him insane numbers or straight up adding things onto his kit which in a likely scenario, they will not do. If anything, I'm sick of people actually saying what you're saying "He is a statcheck machine, and that is why he cannot be allowed to be strong." The hypocrisy behind this is he is no more stat check than what you would consider stat check. Like really, what stats does Aatrox "check" actually? Who can Aatrox actually "stat check"? The game has evolved without him, champions who can "statcheck" can do so with much more hidden power. Fiora, Yasuo and Camille all "Stat-check" too, they also have sustain (Yasuo can go warlords or build bt) but they do it differently now, it's not just "stat-check" it's also "skill-check" which makes it even more complicated to deal with.

I think my issue is I'm done with trying to explain to people how bad Aatrox actually is whilst constantly being replied by how he is 'broken when strong' when people literally have never seen him 'strong', because he's never been 'strong'.

Spaceman5pff2 votes

I understand he is weak.

I think most people you try to explain this to actually do understand he is weak.

However, just like old Poppy and Yorick, he is completely oppressive and unfun if he is strong enough to be viable.

The issue with Statcheckers is that the only way for them to be viable is for them to be simply MORE efficient than other champions.

It doesn't matter what stats aatrox is checking, but if he is getting more relevant stats than his opponent, he will kill them.

They can be dead even, but if aatrox is even 5% more gold efficient with his build, he will win. Aatrox is strong when he is REGULARLY more efficient.

That is not always true aatrox pretty much has to out stat the most out of any champion in the game. If he is even not ahead by enough then the enemy team will come back with their stats quickly and outscale him. He needs to be spoon fed like 5 kills with 100 draven adoration stacks for each of the kills to be better than his opponent or stronger. I have experienced it enough. This is also why just farming with aatrox is not a way to come back in the game like a draven who does get those stacks and then gets a kill or assist.

Malicious Metal2 votes

You have to see the context.

Aatrox was released during a time where Drain-tanking ruled the game, making him the poster child of that Meta that everyone disliked at the time. He was a product of the times and thus was seen rather unhealthy since he just made the problems we had during that time worse.

Now? Drain-tanking is already way better on stuff like ADC's stacking Life steal so he'd basically not even be seen as cancerous.

Slave Knight2 votes

That's true, it's unfortunate that stains and stigmas just don't go away :(

Spaceman5pff2 votes

Why did riot need to nerf toplane trundle? STATCHECKING.

Why did Riot not like old shen? STATCHECKING.

Aatrox is not disliked because of stigmas. If he is made strong, he just outstatchecks people and that is not fun and interactive.

Adriqnohee1 votes

That is why people hated him, but is not why riot gutted him, Aatrox is not only the poster boy for drain tanking, but he is also the poster boy for stat check, with Aatrox there is only two results, you either have enough damage to bypass his healing or he kills you, there was no middle ground with him and Riot hated it, which is why he was gutted.

LordGeovanni1 votes

Thing is yasou does that same drain tanking thing with warlords blood lust and lifesteal item 3072 and has a sheild for inital protection and it resets when he ults people think that aatrox revive is unfair but that sheild soaking free damage is just like that but with out the down time that aatrox has when he is in blood well so he is still a danger. ideally aatrox doesnt even want to have his w on healing until he reaches 30% hp but he is weak and besides him being weak there are no good ad/ attack speed items or health / attack speed items with the change of item 3071 and removal of Zephyr. item 3078 and item 3057 loseing ap actully hurt him because now its more useless and wasted stats on him (bruisers take cdr but often lose out because all the good items are stacked heavily in cdr). Aatrox would get nuked to 30% of his hp by one persons combo at the beginning of the fight before he could even stack his blood well much all from mid to late game. bruisers cant function as melee carries like they are supposed to there is only one tank build for bruisers right now and none of them were designed to build that way except garen and darius but its the only way that any bruisers survive long enough to have any effect in a fight.

Adriqnohee1 votes

The reason Aatrox hasn't been complained in a long time, is because riot completely gutted the guy, you can be certain that the moment he comes back to being decent, you will regret ever asking for riot to buff him.

Tusutaki2 votes

The only time Aatrox was decent was back when he was first released. When his passive gave him 50% attack speed when filled at lvl 1 and when his E did a lot more damage,

There is literally no reason to pick Aatrox now with reworked Warwick. Xin being a better sustained fighter than Aatrox is debatable but today, this isnt even up for debate.

People who seriously try to compare Yas to Aatrox in terms of "cancer" has literally no idea about the game or any of its elements.

He needs a rework, not a buff.

I understand the annoyance of what Aatrox can do but even if he was buffed, he would never be at Yasuo level of cancer. Mainly for the fact that Aatrox is easy to fight since the theme of his kit is sustain which has enough counters item 3123 item 3033 item 3165summoner 14 or any champion with grievous wounds Katarina Varus that and he is much easier to kite because he has no mobility but for his telegraphed and slow jump which is his only hard CC and then a slow. Also being a heavy auto attack reliant champion, you can also use item 3075 item 3110 to help counter him if needed as well. As with all champions, building tank or using CC on him is also another option. Even if he was accidently over buffed, there are ways to counter him, and while if he was buffed, he might be hard to fight 1v1 but he would be easy as hell to focus down and out-right kill in a team fight so I don't feel he would be to insane.

the irony of people bringing up aatroxs passive when tryndamere has an ult on less than HALF the cooldown of aatroxs passive, and its way more effective because you can actually do shit during the time of your "death".... Sure aatrox revives with 20-30% hp, but generally dies within half a second of his revive so its fucking useless

His Q is complete shit

If you have his heal turned on while fighting someone you are aatroxing improperly because the damage part far out weighs his laughable sustain which is countered by a shit ass 800 gold item

His E has no base damage, crap AD scaling, the only uses for it are ROFL APtrox or a mediocore slow which basically never even helps you stick to anyone because its stupidly long cooldown for what it does

aatrox is shit, hes far from a god tier, and god forbid you have more playable champs in this game

yall nigs would be complaining super hard if aatrox was actually viable though, im sure many of you don't remember laning against aatrox and that's why these threads are getting upvotes same as morde threads.

rito thank you for not buffing aids champions into viability, we already have yasuo to ban for annoyance.

Axzarious2 votes

I remember laning against Aatrox and gaining tons of freelo because I used Jax. Press E and he's unable to heal off any of his autos. Those were good times.

Auz the Ripper1 votes

Bloodprice and bloodthirst actually completely ignore dodge. The effect and damage of the autoattack are applied as if counter-strike wasn't there.

Axzarious1 votes

Really now? Never noticed. Course, when you look into it, a lot of aatroxes build lifesteal, which IS negated by E and Jax gets stronger the longer he's in a fight. Usually helps if you hold off on E to bait the aatrox into committing to the fight.

Auz the Ripper1 votes

it's really only noticeable if the Aatrox gets fed and is snowballing, which requires are very competent Aatrox player

LordGeovanni1 votes

Those days when jax was playable now a days he is just as unviable as Aatrox only difference is that you can get away with jungle jax to snowball vs a bad and unorganized solo que team. but neither of them are viable in their intended roles being top lane same when they fuck up nautilus.

Axzarious1 votes

I wouldn't say Jax is completely unviable, but he isn't as strong as he once was. If he gets a lead in lane, he can still become an absolute monster - but then again, which top laner doesn't?

On a side note, still dissapointed that a Guinsoo's doesn't have Jax's ult apply every second strike once it winds up.

LordGeovanni1 votes

Jax is less playing him well and more the enemy not trying to disturb your farming in lane or running into you to give you the kill. you can play well from there but ax cant be played top lane because most of his items are shit you 100% have to get trinity force to do anything because its the only bruiser attack speed item. they actually have Guinsoos base attack speed so now hybryds can use that but its so expensive compared to what you get out of it .that you cant get it until later and jax can only build one damage item before haveing to build 2-3 hp and armor/mr items to survive mid game but in this meta you cant play a bruiser unless you go the item 3071 / item 3748 item 3068 item 3742 item 3065 item 3026 item 3111 build which jax cant go because it has no sustain and nothing he scales off of ad ap or attack speed.

LordGeovanni1 votes

the people who are gonna be complaining are the ranged back of the line carries who cry about everything that has defenses that they cant blow up before it reaches them and they actually have to use kiting its not like they have safe high damage characters with spamable skills or anything and most of them also have the same cc and mobility of a support or assassin respectively on lower cooldowns than most supports bruisers and tanks

Tusutaki2 votes

Well ever since the release of the reworked Warwick, there is now literally no reason to pick Aatrox. As bad as Aatrox is, he is supposed to be a sustained fighter but in order to build decent sustain, you have to build damage so your heal can be worth something. Building rageblade is essential in order for him to be at all relevant.

Now? Warwick is better than Aatrox in quite literally, every way that it is laughable to compare the two. Lets just compare the two's sustain.

WARWICK Warwick's basic attacks deal 10 - 44 (based on level) bonus magic damage on-hit. While below 50% maximum health, Warwick's basic attacks also heal him for the same amount, with the healing tripled to 30 - 132 (based on level) while below 25% maximum health.

So in other words, below 50%, WW heals 10 - 44 flat per auto. Below 25%, the heal is tripled. That is per auto. Thats not even assuming if he has Rageblade which will double his healing potential. Thats not even including the immense damage AND heal from his Bite.

AATROX BLOOD THIRST: Aatrox heals himself on-hit every 3rd auto. While Aatrox is below 50% maximum health, heal is tripled. 「 HEAL: 20 / 25 / 30 / 35 / 40 (+ 25% bonus AD) 」

Lets even assume Aatrox has 100 bonus AD and it's maxed rank. He heals for 115 below 50% EVERY 3RD AUTO.

This means that Warwick can outheal Aatrox immensely despite not building any damage. Aatrox is now literally useless. Xin is a better sustained fighter with the buff to his crit, and now Warwick.

They couldnt even bother to make Aatrox untargetable while in midair on his Q. Everything about him is counter productive.

Slave Knight1 votes

Warwick has always been out-healing Aatrox sadly, it's just back then Warwick didn't really feel like he had a completed kit whereas Aatrox whilst kind of mismatched together at least had 4 abilities. It just seems in isolate cases where Aatrox is the only sustain champion in game and builds for his sustain that people see the need to "keep him in check". Realistically however, Aatrox's sustain mechanic is arguably a lot worse than other sustain mechanics (WW, Xin, Irelia) as they have can both damage and healing which in turn increases their healing. Aatrox on the other hand choosing only 1 or the other (Blood thirst for sustain and blood price for damage) has to forego his only means of inbuilt sustain for his only means of inbuilt damage enhancement.

Looking at the ability: BLOOD THIRST: Aatrox heals himself on-hit every 3rd auto. While Aatrox is below 50% maximum health, heal is tripled. 「 HEAL: 20 / 25 / 30 / 35 / 40 (+ 25% bonus AD) 」

People don't seem to understand that Blood Thirst, with that terrible AD ratio and pitiful base heal alongside the 3-hit gate makes it much harder to heal while in combat.

Tusutaki1 votes

I wouldnt go to the extent of saying pre rework out heals Aatrox as the heal boost is actually significant below 50%. From 25% bonus ad to 75%. As to why its bonus and not just flat AD I have no clue in hell. I will however will not deny his lack of relevance due to the nature of his kit where Aatrox must build damage in order to see any significant impact from his heals whereas you have tanks who can dish out damage and be sustained IE Xin and Darius.

I've been trying to desperately find ways to make Aatrox relevant with experimenting builds and runes but the end results always comes up short. Like I said, everything about Aatrox is counter productive. He cant initiate without being blown up. He cannot initiate and ult without being blown up. He cant build damage without being blown up. He cant build tank without being useless. He cannot attempt to knock up without CCing himself and can be interrupted.

And I dont think people seem to get that either hence the reason why I mention Rageblade because without it, youre essentially screwing yourself and your team over. This extends to Xin too as I view Rageblade much more valuable than Trinity that people keep building onto him.

The thing is with Aatrox, i think there is an easy way to fix him. Make him untargetable while in the air, and combine Blood Thirst/Price when Ult is active and remove the health cost for the bonus damage, and remove the active damage from ult as compensation. I also was never a big fan of increasing his auto range as while you're autoing someone like Lucian at max range and he dashes away, that increased auto range actually gimps your abilities as their range doesnt increase in turn making you even easier to kite.

if u go by win rate, and alot of peoplenot being able to play them. Might as well addRyze Talon Taliyah AurelionSol Shen Azir to your list. Alot of these champs are played in high elo and pro play more and more often. Yet most think they are weak if not terrible. But if someone can play these champs and win with them (consistantly) at higher elos then maybe its not the champion as much as it is the player. In theory the higher u go up the ladder, the worse off Cho will be due to his reliability on long cd skill shots. But if someone is playing them In masters like the comment above u, then his kit and numbers are probably fine. He needs QoL buffs but thats probobly it.

Orangesilk1 votes

This is the thing, Cho is NOT played in high ELO but by a RIDICULOUS minority. (champion.gg has him around the 0.5% playrates, op.gg doesn't even HAVE him on the radar from how few people play him). He has terrible winrate. And he is never picked by the pros.

Of course there will ALWAYS be at least ONE person in the entire whole world who will make him work at high ELO, but this does not make the champ balanced at all. The same could be said for champions like Nidalee who is objectively one of the worst champions in the game, someone will always win with her, but it doesn't change the fact that she's in the gutter.
