Tell me why the new Rammus is not used as a sup?

now given its late saturday night on my server and also its normals. with 0 rammus experience i just played 2 games of support rammus and DOMINATED the map, and even went positively in lane.

i built eye of equinox, mobo boots, thornmail 1st into in no particular order rightous glory, deadmans and abysal sceptor.

ran full tank runes, and bond of stone (could probably go courage tbh tho since im not building sup items atleast the adc gets SOME dmg mitigation from me with bond) maxed taunt 1st q 2nd

your so damn fast with q you can get wards deep into the enemy jg with relatively 0 risk, make highly effective ganks onto midlane and get back bot fast enough that your adc is cursing at you in chat. and since the wards are so deep and your so damn fast you can catch people out none stop.

yet this isnt played according to op.gg

talk me out of it because i shouldnt have gotten 2 S' in a row with no experience on the champ in a none meta spot XD

Before I get into explanation, this part means squat. You can get an S as support Zed with a negative KD. Its the fact the champion isn't played there that the standards are significantly lower for the champ in that specific role. That's why low pick rate or low winrate champions are easy to get S ranks as, and people play champions in off roles for easier mastery tokens.

Now onto rammus as a support itself,

Completely outclassed and basically diet in everything.

Pros of rammus support:

  • CC lock Alistar Braum Galio Janna Blitzcrank Taric Thresh Nautilus Nami Morgana Maokai Lulu Leona
  • Very tanky Alistar Blitzcrank Braum Galio Leona Nautilus Thresh Taric
  • Strong roamer Alistar Bard Blitzcrank Galio Leona Nautilus Morgana Thresh

Cons:

  • No healing, shielding, or forms of sustain besides an armor buff which still chips him, making him unable to handle lanes under pressure, and he will lose the lane if he loses early. Even champions like Alistar or Nautilus have heals or shields which keep them and their ally in the lane longer. Champions that support can often hold their lane and protect their ADC, either with heals, shields, or peel, rammus can't do anything but taunt the AD as minions can block his other form of CC (while other champions usually have a way to clear the wave or another method of CC)

  • All matchups are bad While rammus may be the anti-AD champion, he isn't anti anything if he's getting peeled off by their support (headbutted away, janna tornado or ulted, blitz knock up silence, mao root, mal suppression/minion block, minion block in general, a long list of snares and binds from various champions, lanterns.)

This is why there is no playrate, because rammus support is like the diet alistar, braum, thresh, or even galio. There's no real reason to play rammus support as you're very easy to outrange and bully early, very easy to ignore mid game, and late game you're on a support budget and will likely fail to actually tank everything as much as rammus normally would, and you're ignorable in teamfights and just get turned on last.

Bond of stone isn't even in the game anymore! Got replaced by stoneborn pact which, as long as you have cc and your aDC is doing its job, does the same thing.

If it's working then use it! Kick enough ass with it and make meta sheep bow down to the pick.

Because the resistances on W are important to him, and he doesn't get massive flat resistances just by ranking it up anymore.

He has to buy resistance items if he wants to actually get tanky, and that's not really possible on a support budget.
