kassadin q and edge of night interaction

Edge of Night: Channels for 1.5 seconds to gain a Spell Shield spell shield that blocks the next enemy ability within the next 10 seconds

Kassadin Q: Kassadin fires an orb of void energy at the target enemy, dealing magic damage and interrupting channeled abilities.

so its not really an ability but still does anyone know if it interupts the channel?
