The mid lane

I fairly comfortable with all other positions (suck at ADC but I get it) BUT the mid-lane. Even against bots, I find myself dying in mid -lane like 2-4 times in the first 20 minutes. It seems like it's always so aggressive, and in solo ques I dread being late on my position call and having to settle w/ midlane, cuz I know we're gonna lose unless the enemy afk's. I'm really not the best at CS (im a sup main) and I tend to be a little overaggressive sometimes, so farming under turret is extremely aggravating for me. As an example, the other day I went mid as akali and met ziggs and I got next to NO farm. by 20 minutes I'll say I got about 40cs? maybe? (that and ziggs is on my top 5 most hated champs to play against) Please, can anyone give me some tips on the mid-lane? I've never had a good mid-lane game.

If you are a support main you can get away with playing Morgana Annie Lulu and you should be able to do decently well. They function the same way as support, just you can take CS and have some kill threat. I don't know your support playstyle, but if you consider yourself a main, you should be comfortable being able to play most of the champions in that category.

As Akali, you need to basically try as hard as you can to CS until you hit 6. You SHOULDN'T be able to get CS easily against anyone who is ranged. Akali only really becomes a threat once she hits 6 and can either kill or push out her lane opponent. You can only do this with gold, so you need to CS.

If you can't stand farming under tower, DON'T play Akali. You HAVE to play something that has strong wave clear early in the game, someone who can easily push minion waves so you wont' be under the tower.

First off do not play Akali at all unless you are going to play her a lot, she is pretty bad atm. To be honest do not play any assassin atm, the whole role is super weak.

These 3 champs seem to always be good and are worth investing some time into.

Annie = Easy to play and very good in any meta, even when you get crapped on you are still relevant.

Malzahar = Easy to play and very good in any meta, even when you get crapped on you are still relevant.

TwistedFate = Easy to play and very good in any meta, even when you get crapped on you are still relevant.

All 3 of these are super easy to learn and to kill creeps with, they are also really good the entire game due to having strong cc.

Yea, I only played akali once er twice in mid, all other times I play top. Much better luck w/ her there. Dont think I'll play her mid again :3 Also I suck at Annie . Hard. Everyone says she's easy but I cannot get a good game w/ that one.

Annie has short range and a few difficult match ups, but for the most part when you have your stun up there are 5 very very scared people on the other team.

Unless you main one particular champion for the mid lane it is difficult to give you a lot of advice. Ever match up is different and most champions have hard counters that can make good game play seem like you are intentionally feeding.

You said you liked Orianna, Viktor and Lissandra. The easiest of these 3 to play well would be Lissandra, but she is also the easiest one to counter pick. If you insist upon playing one of those and are willing to put serious time into learning how to play them well I would suggest Orianna, she is never bad.

Lux and Viegar are both brokenly strong champions atm. Lux is super easy to play well, while viegar takes a lot more dedication to perform with but his power is actually limitless (syndra is jelly).

Solo lanes like Mid and Top take a good bit of time to learn. In top lane if you lose a early trade or get even slightly behind the game is basically over for you, unless your champion outscales your opponets champion. In mid lane it is not nearly as bad, you can come back from being down.

First thing you should do when you get to mid lane is left click your opposing mid laner. If they have 30 Magic Resist they will take more damage from you, but that means they are running ap, cdr or mana glyphs. This means that there damage potential on you is higher. Small things like this really do change how lane match ups turn out. I have always felt like Mid lane was the easiest lane to play though. Map awareness is important as a mid laner, you are in the middle of the map. This means you have a ton of influence over the progression of top and bottom lane. Learning when and where to roam is very important.

Ward one of the long bushes by the river and use that as your safe side, or favor that side when you are in the middle or pushed up further. Your enemy lane will favor the other side most times, you can use this tactic to set up ganks by pretending to place a ward in the opposite bush of your jungler and then favoring the opposite side of your jungler where you just pretended to place the ward. This will cause your enemy laner to move towards your jungler and make the gank easier.

I could type tons more, but I have to go to work. :(

Edit: While the game is loading, look up your enemy champions wiki and jot down the cooldowns for there spells. Knowing the enemies cdr and spell cool downs makes knowing when certain spells are coming back up pretty easy and gives you a massive advantage.

If your enemy laner chunks you with spells, those spells are on cool down so you should return fire with some of your spells. A lot of people just see them selves lose 25% of there health and do not trade back. Never give free damage like that, unless it could get you killed or cost you a cannon.

Thanks for the input so far, but I'm more looking for strategies and gameplay in the mid-lane. I enjoy champions like Orianna and Victor and Lissandra, I just never seem to have good luck in the lane itself. Is there some kind of team aspect I'm missing? I feel like There's something basic I'm doing wrong. I got molested by a Sion when I played Ryze, and while Sion is a big deal, I still feel like I should've been able to get something done.
