Max Tenacity on a Standard Champion

Hey there!

Froz3nBlaze AKA Mr.Fraze here and I've got a weird question!

What is the max Tenacity one could achieve? More precisely, what's the max one could achieve on a standard champ running the Precision tree or the Resolve tree.

You see, I'm pretty much an Udyr OTP (occasional Volibear when Udyr is banned) and I run either PTA, Conquerer or Aftershock on him depending on whether I'm Jungle or Top and what team I'm facing. And as we all know, Udyr is very susceptible to getting kited or locked down with CC and I was wondering what would be the best runes/items I could run to kind of reduce that lockdown.

I tried understanding what items/runes stack with each other and how they stacked together but I'll be honest, it confused me.

So, what in your opinion would be the best rune/item combination to get the maximum amount of Tenacity while still either running down the Precision or Resolve tree?

Also, does having smite on cooldown proc Unflinching's extra 10% as well as it's other bonus of increasing Tenacity for a limited time right after using smite?

I appreciate any positive information I can get, and would be grateful.

P.S. I know champs like Garen, Mundo and others have their own built-in tenacity and I'd rather they be excluded from the discussion.

You asked for the "best", which is not the same as the "maximum". The best would be, take Legend:Tenacity and Unflinching, buy mercs, early Elixer of Iron, and probably Sterak's, if it makes sense. (Even though taking Kleptomancy might result in more Tenacity, it's not advisable.)

If you really knew that you would need it in advance, then, I suppose, take Cleanse. I don't see anybody doing this, but it would surely work.

Stacking Cleanse with mercs, Legend, Iron, and fully stacked Unflinching will give you %92 Tenacity for 3s.

Stacking Cleanse with mercs, Legend, and Iron will give you %87 Tenacity for 3s.

(Riot had considered buffing Garen W to %80 Tenacity last year, and rejected it, determined to be basically "Unstoppable". And %77 is probably very close to Unstoppable as well.)

There is a .5s hard cap on Tenacity CC reduction.

(The Tenacity stat is visible in-game. WIth mercs it shows as %30. Mercs and Iron shows %48.)

Smite DOES proc Unflinching. You can maintain a fairly consistent (well, on-demand, but easy to get) %32 Tenacity without mercs, just by running Unflinching and Smite.

The %10/%20 component of Unflinching does stack additively with Elixer of Iron. One advantage of Unflinching is that you have full use of it lvl 1. Legend Tenacity probably takes about 12m to fully stack.

You could go conqueror and get tenacity rune and go resolve second and get unflinching. Then grab mercs and steraks. I run these on Darius and Illaoi when I know the enemy team is going to overestimate their ability to kite. Also don’t forget elixir of iron, gargoyle stoneplate. Then the rest of your build can just be damage.

you can get 100% cc immunity for a short moment when you press w on Fiora or r on Olaf

otherwise its probably Garen item 3111 item 3053 item 2138 + legend: tenacity and unflinching.

you can get like 92% tenacity or something like that for an incredibly short window when you activate your w, blow both summoner spells, and have steraks game shield active.

P.S. I know champs like Garen, Mundo and others have their own built-in tenacity and I'd rather they be excluded from the discussion.

basically the same items and runes i posted up there for Udyr

though at some point its not very efficient to stack more tenacity. your best bet is to get legend tenacity and item 3111 which puts you up to 52%.

tenacity on item 3053 shield is a special case and stacks additive with merc treads (usually tenacity stacks multiplicative), so it grants you another big chunk of cc reduction when it procs.

this should be enough. id not recommend picking unflinching on top of these, since it stacks poorly with the other sources, and you get much more value out of revitalize with your w heals, than youd get out of like 5% more tenacity from the rune.

like what would that be? you sacrifice an entire rune slot to reduce something like a Morgana by another 0.15s? not worth.

in some rare cases however it might be worth to get unflinching in place of legend tenacity, when your enemy team is loaded with slows as pretty much their only form of cc.
