ARAM Toxicity

Since the end of the season, I've been playing ARAM more often and have noticed an astounding number of ARAM only accounts. I'm talking about the people who start a new account and only buy champs like Nid, Sona, Xerath, etc. I understand these champs will be chosen occasionally, but when I play ARAM I want to play unusual champs/comps. Every single game feels like I'm playing against the same team strategy. Take mega heals, poke, and disengage.

In my opinion there should be 3 changes to this map:

  1. All champs are available to everyone - The map should be equal and actually random.
  2. Experience should be equal (similar to Ascension) - This would slow down the snowballing of poke heavy comps and actually gives the melee champs a chance to feel relevant.
  3. Dodge penalties should be increased and a loss should be given - Inevitably, every game I queue for there's on average 3-4 dodges. I know it's because player X got some perceived worthless champ.

First off, nice name OP.

swipes it for their Pokemon campaign

To actually respond to your post, I agree on some points. ARAM should mean ALL RANDOM. I'm tired of people running ARAM only accounts to game the system (even though I'm technically one of them, sort of... this is my only account, but I main ARAMs and buy champions based on my wanting to play them in ARAM (including Rammus, King of Fuck Everything Around Me)).

To answer your second point though, no. Just no. Poke champs have their own weaknesses, and certain melee champs would be an even greater terror if levels were matched (looking at you, Garen, Sion, Sejuani, Akali, and Yasuo!). The Poke champions have to utilize their early/general game dominance if they want to win, just like the melee champs have to turtle and Bide their time.

I used to be afraid of fighting Lux, Nidalee, Syndra, and Heimerdinger in ARAM.

Nowadays I shudder when I see a Sion, Garen, or Syndra on the other side of the bridge (Syndra OP on my graphics card). If you cannot pull out the early win against Mr Murder-Zombie or the Demacian star of "Will It Blend?", you're gonna have a bad time and very likely lose (given comparable player skill and even teams).

My winrate for ARAM Sion is hovering above 75% (even higher in Poro King!), Garen rests somewhere around 60-70%.

To put it in perspective, I think my best mage in ARAM is Nami, swimming pretty at 55%. Last I checked my Sona (post rework) is 35%, and my best marksman is Teemo at 65% (but I play Maanmo. Tank stats all the way if I can, and the enemy team focuses me hard, letting my team run them over like pancakes. Global Taunt OP yo').

ARAM may be random, but you can pull a win with almost any combo as long as you play to your strengths and the enemy's weaknesses.

(If you feel the need to actually check me, yes, I am Bronze 5. That was to secure my group's name. I haven't touched Ranked since early last season, and never even bothered finishing my placements. My ARAM MMR has me matched with Silvers, Golds, and some low Plats when I queue by myself. I've actually seen LESS ARAM only accounts as my MMR improved since I swapped to full Smart Casts. I've consistently sat at 30 more wins than losses. I'm not the best at ARAM, I know, but I've found what works, and it's not always poke mages... Support mages still suck to fight though, screw Janna with a wind turbine.)

I like the idea of every player getting an unrestricted random champion, would add some flavor to the games.

Not sure what you meant by a "loss" for a dodge, if you lose you still get benefits from playing. Would rather see X dodge freeze their reroll counter for X games.

All in all, it's just meant to be a fun alternative to playing Rift all the time. No need to over complicate it.

What people don't know is that Zilean and Brand are actually the two most OP champs in ARAM.
