Heimerdinger vs Vayne

I just played a game as the donger against a vayne top lane. Considering their team setup on loading screen was: Varus : summoner 14 + summoner 4 Vayne : summoner 7 + summoner 4 Vladimir : summoner 12 + summoner 4 The normal setup would be Varus:Mid Vayne:ADC Vladimir:Top my guess is they switched it up for a vayne top. now my question is, is Vayne a natural counter to Heimerdinger? i mean i know that Caitlyn with her massive range is a huge threat (from past experience) with her headshot that can 1 shot my turrets then jump on me for a quick kill with successive crits is a hard counter for Heimerdinger; but it just seems like Vayne is a mid-hard counter for him.

Reasons

  1. she outrange my turrets
  2. her Q can straight up dodge my E which then provides a dmg boost
  3. her Q can also dodge my W which means i almost have no poke ability vs her
  4. its almost impossible to stop her from getting the turrets for free since she can dodge all my skills
  5. at best i can throw E watch the dodge then try W, but that is countered by diving behind the minion wave which soaks up all the dmg from W
  6. I could do point 5 the other way around and throw W then E after dodge but then it does no dmg and all i can do is AA which means i get minion agro and take more dmg than what i did to her.

So is this a possible counter? or is it a skill matchup? As I rifle through my options, there arent many ways i see of winning lane as Heimerdinger vs Vayne. I know there are things i can do to stalemate the lane and maybe a 1/10 chance of getting a kill off her, but thats it i dont see a real way of winning lane here.

any advice would be appreciated for future reference.

Ranged AD, in general, is a counter to Heimer, at least during laning phase.

They lose nothing by simply auto-attacking the turrets, which they usually outrange.

It is not uncommon to swap lanes to send the ADC vs Heimer if you see him on the opposing team.

I would imagine that turning into farm lane pretty fast... Heimer cannot poke Vayne for reasons you mentioned, but Vayne can't really afford to poke Heimer with her Q since it would leave her vulnerable to Heimer Q and E and put her into range of turrets, leave alone walking up for poke. Post-6 Vayne has changes to kill Heimer if Heimer can't maintain 3 turrets/gets zoned away from them/Vayne gets gank.

On the other hand, she can't attack you either without exposing herself due to her short AA range.

I would say the match up goes to Heimerdinger slightly. It is much easier to gank Vayne (especially early on) than to gank a Heimerdinger. As well, Heimderdinger gets to choose if he wants to poke Vayne. Whether the poke lands is not important, but Vayne does not have the initiative. If she tries something, she will take damage guaranteed; while Heimer can at least take some crack shots at Vayne at the expense of his own mana.
