Why Does No One Love Me? (Why have we stopped using Nautilus?)

So its come to my attention that Naut is really going down in popularity as a tanky jungler as well as a top laner. I myself have recently started playing him as a tank in the jungle, and find that he is very fun and a very versatile jungler. So the question is: Why dont more people use him? Im asking because im not certain of the reason. A common complaint is that he falls off too much late game, but im not noticing that in my games. Can Someone shed some light in this for me?

Naut, not Nat

Naut is basically a champion that will never contribute much damage, and in this insane burst, insane speed meta where everyone is dying in instant seconds. If you don't have enough enough damage for clean up, you aren't as useful.

You gave us no "I LOVE THIS CHAMPION" poll box, how dare yee.

He's a perfect champ, one of the few PURE tanks left.

Get off his back. He's busy carrying the rest of your team.

Naut's Q doesn't go throw walls, he also doesn't get rewarded for landing on an enemy champion (unlike thresh, even though thresh' Q go through walls and if the adc flashed you don't hit the tower and pull yourself in the Danger) BUT YOU GET REWARDED FOR HITTING A TERRAIN! YAY!

his E requires him to stop movement for 0.25 seconds (i think) which makes all the difference in the world (this is why you combine Q and E at escapes, nautilus mains know what im talking about) His W is his ONLY Legit Damage source , that can be easily popped by a maxed skill of any laner. his kit doesn't give any defensive stats, no damage reduction, no free armor, no increased health reg. which makes him squshie compared to other tanks in this current meta

His R, isn't instant, there's a miliseconds Delay between the moment he hits the anchor to release the ult, and between the time the ult takes to start traveling to the target (No matter the distance between you and enemy) that milisecond could mean life or death, his ult should stun the Target for 1 second AFTER they land, cause currently, it stuns them for 1 second (the same second they're knocked up) but the second take around 0,75 of the time, so they're still stunned when they lane, i was hoping for something like Cho'gath's Q Mechanic, the CC applied AFTER they land.

The CC Chain is Nautilus signature, there's alot of small things that people don't notice it until you play him for a Fair while, and when you die to someone because of those small problem, Riot are refusing to look at those problems, small Delays, CC Within CC that Stops you from having a Smooth Combo, and to top it all, they're still not giving nautilus any "Defensive" passive, which is kind of sad, you would think a man in a Diver suit being, you know, The Tankiesh champion in the league.

that being Said, Nautilus isn't Quite the Duelist, and your performance is solely Dependent on your team, it doesn't matter how good you are, or how much you're ahead over everyone, if you're team is doing bad, then trust me, so you are, and here's why:

1- Nautilus has no actual reliable Damage (we're implying that you're playing jungle Tank) Except for his W, that is also, happen to be a Defensive ability at the same time, he unlike most Tanks don't have a spamable ability, and they're all have long cooldowns due to them having CC, and Trust me a Tank that's using his Basic attacks that aren't supported by his kit will have pretty much a really hard time.

2- Nautilus cannot carry, he isn't a Game changing champion, he isn't a great split pusher, his job is to tank and CC, and start praying your teammates have enough damage to kill them before they kill you.

3- Close to no Mobility, other than his Q that you need to land on Terrains, he has a horrible Base movement speed.

4- Fails against Most if not All junglers in Terms of Dueling without teammates help, now i know nautilus isn't Design to duel, but the enemy doesn't care what are you design for, they will try to kill you and you will have 2 options, either to hit the wind, or see how much can you soak up during a Duel, (hint: you will lose the duel)

5- insane cooldowns. i mentioned this before.

Riot need only to do 1 thing to Fix, or make all of those problems acceptable, Give him his full Duration on his W, even without the shield.

that's my 2 cents...well actually it's more than 2 cents.

been a nautilus main for aslong as i remember, still is.

Only problem(s) with him is that his E needs to do either

  1. More damage

  2. More distance

And his Q needs to be able to go through walls if charged for 1 second.

With today's jungle, Nautilus has a hard time clearing the camps and is almost always short in levels and gold. Even when pulling off several successful ganks pre-6 I still struggled getting the gold to buy my tank items. With the recent changes, his shield is weaker early game.

Like someone already mentioned, your team needs to be prepared to baby you while you farm. Not only is farming the camps a struggle, but any of the other popular junglers, (Lee Sin, Pantheon, Jarvan IV) can just walk into your jungle and kill you time and time again, since they will be ahead in levels and most likely in items.

He's a great tank, has amazing peel, and mountains of cc. He's just too weak for solo queue in my opinion.

You should put an option for "I don't have the IP to buy him/haven't bought him".

Naut is a great champ, one of the few true Raid bosses in the game. He struggles early game though, as intended, for how powerful he is late game, his early game has to suffer I'm afraid. In solo queue, it's unlikely that you'll have a team concerned enough to help keep you safe through your first couple of clears until you hit level six. Once you hit level six though, your ganks become pretty beastly with all of your CC available. As the game progresses, you simply keep getting stronger. Towards late game, you are one of the few tanks that can jump right in the middle of the enemy team and really cause havok while your team dives after you and still survive long enough to get off all of your damage and CC. The thing to remember with him though is that he is mainly a farm based jungler. You can't go ganking every five seconds and expect to stay up to speed with the rest of the rift, never could. You gank when your ult is up and you KNOW that you can secure a kill for your laner and try to snowball them.

I voted I don't like using him.

Don't get me wrong, I used to play alot of Nautilus back when he was released but I didn't play him enough to actually consider him my main as I moved to other champions (skarner, Sejuani, Cass, MF etc etc). I don't hate him, I'm just conflicted.

Part of the reason why I don't really play him is what I was reminded of why I stopped playing him when I tried playing him again recently.

Without a doubt yeah Nautilus can get beefy tanky, but the most annoying aspect about him when I play him is knowing that all my CC is literally my ult and all inside my root passive...

I autoattack to root someone down to pin them down, and then I have to wait for a cooldown that feels like years to able to re-root my target since all of my other forms of Crowd Control actually feel like soft CC.

I.E. A Slow, a one time hook that I might have already burned to get into range since I'm fat and slow, and my knock up ultimate that I have to be careful I don't blow too early so I can make sure my team really makes use of it. And all these abilities are on long cooldowns.

For a tanky champion, I sure as hell don't feel like I have the tools to lock down a target or feel like I can be a peeler. Because if I'm peeling, really all I did was do it for 1.5 seconds and then I'm useless to that single target I have to keep trying to peel off because of timer cooldowns and my ability cooldowns.

And the worst part, I honestly can't build damage either because of how the kit is structured on how he works.

I feel like Shen without the taunt and ult shield, takes me years to clear lane minions when I have to hold it for someone or push it for them, and I have to rely on my teammates to bring the damage and hopefully not leave me behind because they turned tail and ran away from a bad engagement since I haven't called 1-800-Jenny20.

I would rather play Leona in the jungle then Nautilus because I know I can be the absolute definition of peeler and tank. Nautilus doesn't have the proper tools to do his job properly because of how Soft his CC feels and fizzles.

They buffed his shield recently, and gave him a little bit of dueling power with it... But Yea...
