because she's a reset focused champion. if she got resets but ran out of mana or energy to use her abilities then it's like she didn't have resets to begin with.

most champions only reset one ability so the additional resource cost isn't a big deal, but when kat's ENTIRE KIT resets she needs to be manaless or have such miniscule mana costs that she's effectively manaless.

I actually think its because she is so early game focused and needs to get ahead early. She could be easily made to be a mana champion and have to build something like an archangels, but that would slow down her early game a lot, for better or for worse.

Her resource is Passion. She simply has an infinite amount of it.

Because then you'd have an excuse to make most of her kit actually do reliable burst.

As it is, her ult is her biggest source.

R: 350 / 550 / 750 (+ 250% AP) (+ 375% bonus AD)

Her ult out does virtually the entirety of the rest of her kit.

you're forgetting 2 things.

her Q gives bonus damage to her next auto/ability
resets

If she gets 3 resets, you could eat 3 of her QW combos (or QEW combos) which add up to a LOT more than her ult altogether. ;)

I didn't forget. I posted the total damage for her Q, not simply the dagger damage. Her resets are based on getting kills or assists, if she is at the point that she is killing people, she is already fed. Three resets equals three kills or assists.

Well, lets look at the numbers.

One level in Q, three in W, one in E and one in R. QWE: 245 (+125% AP) (+ 60% Bonus AD) R: 350 (+250% AP) (375% Bonus AD)

Umm... it's not that her resets are that scary, it's that she Needs them. Granted, this is all assuming she has the chance to get her full channel of her ult off.

THIS, is why I'm not that scared of her ult. ;)

Then again, I usually play champions with some form of CC if I see a Katarina on the enemy team.

That is also why Kat is considered rather low on the list of assassins.

Kat' kit has some all in strength, but her ability to pop people with QEW really doesn't happen unless she gets a gold and exp lead on someone. Like any assassin, she has to either poke or trade an enemy down to less than half their health before trying to get that first kill (Or hope they've got a top tier jungler that can help burst the target down.) Kat' resets are a major asset, but typically it's not what snowballs her, it simply what allows her to continue snowballing mid/late game.

She is resourceless because, as the relentless assassin and diva of the blade that she is, she can manipulate the blades to do her bidding, much like Irelia, only more refined. Because of this skill, she is said to have "limitless techniques" at her disposal, so long as she has a blade in hand.

Another way of saying limitless techniques, if you label techniques as "resources", is that she has infinite resources. Infinite resources means that she will never run out of them, which is best portrayed in LoL as a resourceless champion. This does however, pose a rather odd paradoxical conundrum in which Katarina has infinite resources, and is also resourceless...
