Nostalgia Goggles and why we need to start looking at some of the good things Riot has done
Now, I'm not someone who has been playing league for an insane amount of time. I started back during the bilgewater event and stopped playing for a while. I think I came back sometime after Jihn's release as the first new Champion I was able to get hyped for was Aurelian Sol. But honestly, I look at what the game used to be and I think, holy shit this game has made some massive improvements. Maybe its because I don't have nostalgia goggles or played back then, but I feel as if this game as only gotten better with time.
For example, champ select trolls. Because of when I joined and stuff, I never had to deal with them. Sure we at current have autofill but it doesn't happen nearly as often as people let on. Thanks to the ability to choose a role you want and the game more times then not giving you your primary or secondary role you don't deal with champ select trolls if you play stuff other than blind pick.
The graphics are vastly improved, the old game frankly looks like shit compared to the current summoners rift. Baron Nashor looks sleeker, the dragon doesn't look like a horrible abomination, its an all round improvement. And speaking of graphics
New Champion designs are fucking incredible. Aurelian Sol, Jihn, reworked Warwick, reworked Taric, reworked Yorick, hell even the hated third rework of Ryze all look really cool compared to the original look. We have amazing walk cycles, sassy star dragons, tree pedophiles and stuff like that. The new champions have interesting kits and new ideas, and with so many interactions with others it shows of a Champs personality more. Plus with more voice lines this gives more opportunity for funny interactions. Like Aurelian Sol saying Boop. Hell even Camille despite all her hate looks cool and has great voice lines.
The lore has been vastly improved upon. Like alot of the old champions lore were incredibly simple or practically non existent, and new champion's have much better lore. I mean look at Camille, her lore is freaking incredible. Warwick is batman if batman didn't have qualms about murdering people, simple sure but the execution was so good. Riot's ability to craft these incredible stories is awesome.
Now I'm not going to pretend league doesn't have problems right now, like towers being way too weak, games currently being decided way to early and lethality being wayyy strong right now, these problems can be fixed. Plus, don't forget it was us who wanted lethality to be buffed. And yes Riot makes mistakes but hey, they are a company ran by humans and humans make mistakes. Its our job as the community to tell Riot when they are doing good things and tell them when hey, the fucked up. But the thing is, I only see negativity on the boards about this thing being OP or this Champion needed to be removed or etc. Instead of focusing on that, we should take a step back and look at all the good things Riot as done and say, hey, sure the game may not be the same, sure things have changed but a lot of things have changed for the better.
So as a community we need to be willing to accept new things. I know I had my moment of hatred when I heard about plants and them removing smite buffs but it turned out those things were actually really nice changes, and I actually prefer them to the old smite buffs.
TLDR
"Change, is good"
