Differentiating towers by lane instead of just by row.
This is just some weird brainfart on my part but maybe there is something to it. Would it be a good idea to do something interesting and different with LoL's towers? Currently all towers are kinda the same, sure they are a little different by row but every lane has the same set of towers with nothing to make them different or interesting, there is nothing that individual towers do to add to the gameplay of LoL. I think this has some room for improvement.
It's been well established by now that each lane has its own function, that is to say, certain champion roles are kinda fixed in lane positions. Bot is the lane for adc+support, mid is for mages/assasins, and top is for the tanky guys. So I think it can stand to reason that we should be able to start differentiating towers for these lanes as well. Each lane's towers could get unique stats and effects that help/hinder champions that belong to that lane. This could give a lot of impact on roaming and lane swaps.
People also always complain about towers being to weak, well I doubt my idea will really help with this specific aspect but who knows.
By giving towers far better protection against the type of damage (or the amount of damage) that is expected for their lane, towers might last longer, at least without interference from other lanes or the jungler. But this would also mean giving champions a different damage type for their basic attacks. Currently all champions do normal damage, champions with AP get a boost to their tower damage according to their AP I believe, what if this extra damage from AP became magic damage (or turned their whole basic attack into magic damage) and towers in their lane would get a big magic resist buff? Now their own lane towers would last longer while they would still be able to destroy towers from other lanes just as easily.
You can also provide towers with adequate defenses according to the amount of damage they are expected to take. Bot lane for example could expect to take a lot more punishment not just because there are two people there that tend to be both AD and AP but also because one of them is a adc who is expected to deal a lot of damage to towers. And that is on top of the frequent parties at bot.
This can also be interesting for the jungler, the difference in tower stats and their better defense against either AD or AP could force different junglers (AD or AP) into different patterns since they will be able to push down certain towers better then others.
It can maybe also make for longer lasting save zones without making the game last longer. If for example there was one lane where towers where just supper resilient (bot lane for example) then maybe it would be safer to farm for longer in that lane. Towers would have to do more then just be resilient though, in order to provide a true safe zone they would have to be able to prevent a lot of mobility and do a lot more damage. But because this would only be the case for the towers in this one lane (and perhaps only for the first tower) it would mean games would still end just as quickly since you can just push into the enemy base in the other two lanes.
You could also have the mid towers be the tough ones, which will have a big impact on map movement if the middle was expected to keep its towers for a long time effectively keeping the map split.
You could also look into more tower interactions with items and summoner spells. What if there was a item or summoner spell that would temperately turn a tower into a controllable artillery installation for a few shots. Or an item/spell that turns the zone around a tower into a slowing or grounding zone? Maybe a item/spell that provides your tower with a quickly recharging shield as long as you are close enough to it?
That's all I have for now, I think current towers are kinda bland, there is room for improvement here, there has got to be something unique and interesting riot could do with them. If anyone else has any ideas or suggestions please post them below.
