xerath support legit?

so with the new meta the way it is i was wondering everyones take on xerath support. i have been playing him a bit with pretty good success. i mean im only ranked silver so that "success" doesnt mean much lol. but i wanted to know how higher ranked players felt about it. my thought is brand is a support that works pretty well, so why couldnt X do it? my typical build in order is into then then and finish off those 2 items then finish off with . from there i see how the game is and what item would be best. what is your take on this and do you think its viable, or how could i change the build around for the better?

I remember back in my day, supports actually helped the team.

Now it's just DAMAGE DAMAGE DAMAGE MORE DAMAGE DAMAGE

It was meta I think in S7 for a patch or two, Riot nerfed it and people stopped playing it. But with the lack of sustain in bot lane now it might be good again.

I would never finish off item 3092 personally. The gold value from it isn't worth it for what you get. Just get item 3098 . As for Xerath support it CAN work and I have played it but I feel like it takes lots of practice to get down. Like don't get me wrong he isn't a incredibly hard champ but at the same time considering what usually goes botlane and what happens down in this hell...it will take some getting used to going through the motions.

has high base damage which means he does not need as much gold to have a high damage output, as such he can function on a supports gold income. Also 2 enemies is the ideal number for his R. This does not mean other mages can't go support but you have to keep in mind how the lower gold income and exp share will affect them and if what your trying to achieve with that mage cannot be done with a traditional support to greater effect. Of course if your finding sucess with a certain pick then by all means go for it. I got out of bronze and silver using lux and ziggs support back in season 5 so if it works, it works.
