Thank you for refering me here, didn't think it was a gameplay thing. Open boxes action! Getting a champion shard after you have a champion is basically like getting a reward ripped away from you, whether it was earned through matches or payed for. I think, to allow champion shards to have some use after, that the finished rerolled champion should be worth orange essence in the amount of rp it would cost to purchase it, like the skins are.
On my main it was awesome actually, only person I didnt have was 
so I took 3 champion shards of people I had and rerolled into a permanent champion. So since I owned everyone I got... ...TADA! So I am happy with stuff like that
Actually riot is working on a way to let you use champion shards even when you have every champ. I think it has to do with champion mastery or something like that but I'm pretty sure they are working on it.
I which I did get champion shards, in have an Aurelion Shard, but only skin essence -,-
I think we should have an option to turn essence in IP boosts. Also, the difference between the two essences should disappear and just use essence, not one for skins and one for champs. I would almost buy chests for that because even if I don't get something amazing, I still get IP boosts to work on.
Maybe we could have the option of Re rolling 6 Champion shards for another cosmetic shard or something or just not have the option of getting champion shards while you currently own every champion
