Abyssal Scepter getting the Black Cleaver Treatment

Red Post Collection: Abyssal Scepter Changes soon, Context on Riven R Missile Speed Nerf, and more

So if you haven't heard, Riot Reinboom posted that they are planning Abyssal Scepter changes for the next PBE cycle which is coming next week. The change is targeted toward as she puts it, AP tanks and AP bruisers, similar to how BC was targeted for AD tanks and bruisers. What do you guys think? Depending on the changes, who do you think will benefit the most from a better Abyssal Scepter?

galio is my current mid counter to ahri and other ap assassins.

this pleases me. though rumble is gonna be a nightmare to deal with. i dont know how to feel about it overall tbh. it doesnt look like ap bruisers and ap tanks are in a bad place right now except for a few.

can we at least get a lvl 1 mr option that can keep up with cloth + 5 pots in sustain, so we dont have to recall after 2 trades?

Mordekaiser is a champion that uses Abyssal Scepter as a core item. Hopefully they don't fuck the item up, I really like it right now. The flat 20 mr reduction is awesome in that it has 700 range and can reduce MR below 0 while giving a nice amount of resists.

I could see this letting Vlad go more bruiser than he usually does. I know I almost always build Abyssal since the MR and AP combo goes so well with his passive.

I'm actually not a fan of this. Not at all. Abyssal is actually a fairly good item on several midlane mages. Currently it provides AP, MR against assassins, and magic pen (essentially) which is extremely useful against in the tank meta. I would argue these are three of the most important stats for an ap mid. Turning this into a tank item is not what a midlane mage wants at all. Why not create a new item for tanks and turn the abyssal scepter into a better mid item? We need more items anyway. Itemization is way to limited.

Fun fact. Rito originally nerfed Abyssal Scepter's range from 1000 to 600 because they didn't like how it was a must rush item on all mid laners. really, as long as they keep the "sit in the enemy team and cause them to take more magic damage" identity, it'll be fine.
