Ekko's future

Now I am sure that Ekko will be tweaked with in the near future (as all new champions are) and this is doubtless one of many posts about Ekko. It may be swallowed in calls of "NERF NOW!", "Awesome", "Meh", or "so weak". But I want to elaborate some on my opinion of him.

I find him to be quite strong and reliable overall in laning, teamfights, and objective control. This is partially due to his high damage abilities and good AP scaling, but also due to the utility built into his kit. I've outlined the specifics of this in a different post on PBE before his release so I won't go too in depth here.

The main points are these: Ekko has a veritable Swiss army kit. Q is high dmg similar to Ahri's with better range, E is visible for such a short time to opponents that is nearly undodgable from the center (forcing you to either guess the location it will be correctly, back off entirely, or risk being trapped in it, E allows him to easily follow up on his Q and W proc'ing both the stun and his passive for impressive damage, a shield, a stun and movespeed theft. Full CDR means Ekko can easily proc his passive again on the same target if they manage to survive a full rotation and are trying to escape, and lastly the skill cap on these combos isn't even particularly high. His kit also comes packed with 2 different slows, a movement speed steal, AOE stun and shield, %missing health dmg (with better than usual scaling), relatively good wave clear and zoning, easier last hitting, a dash and blink, and a period of untargetability and invulnerability.

Look at many other champions kits and you see at best half this much CC, difficult to land CC, single dashes, etc. PER KIT not all in one champion's kit.

Besides toning down his AP scaling pretty substantially, I think his Q should have improved clarity (especially on his other skin its very hard to see), W should become visible sooner to opponents (In Pantheon's ult you can still almost walk from the center to the outside when it appears), toned down damage ramp on his passive, maybe reduced life gain from his ult.

Those are just some of my ideas for changes i think he needs to not dominate the meta and be an instant-counter-to and a clearly stronger pick than a host of other mid lane champions.

I don't know, I'm not good at this game, so I haven't played against a top tier Ekko, but I have found him to be pretty squishy and easy to target since he is melee.

However, most champions are much, much less squishy.

Nerf his W range, lower the ratio on his W make it activate sooner and lower his ult ratio.

Done.

I don't understand nerfing his W range.

If he casts it too far, he'll never reach it for either the stun or the shield. All it becomes is a mediocre slow field on a long CD.

I'm all for lowering his ult ratio. 90-100% AP Ratio is sufficient enough for burst. 130% is a little overboard. Perhaps it's Riot's incentive to use it offensively, because if it's too weak, it'll only be used as an escape.

"Zed's basic attacks against targets below 50% health deal 6 / 8 / 10% of the target's maximum health as bonus magic damage. " "Ekko's basic attacks deal 5%「 (+ 1.81% per 100 AP) 」of target's missing health as bonus magic damage (Capped at 150 vs. minions / monsters) versus targets below 30% of their maximum health."

And we're calling for a nerf to Ekko when Zed gets that on every one of his hits once the target gets to <50% hp, has even better escape mechanisms, oh and can shadow dance to stay out of harms way?

oh that's right, because he's new and an AP champion..

Couple things:

  1. I don't really play Zed so I don't have the specifics of his passive ready to recite.
  2. The few times I have played Zed I would have said that it made his last hitting too easy.
  3. I find it hard to imagine a scenario where Ekko has low enough AP that his doesn't end up doing more damage.
  4. Zed's can only proc on the same target after a delay, Ekko's proc's on each attack.
  5. A major point was that Ekko's kit AS A WHOLE is strong. Zed has this similar passive, a similar escape mechanic, a similar set of dashes abilities we'll say, and 1 slow while using his shadow with E. Vs Ekko's 3 slows, stun, shield, and his actual passive.
