Why are my friends not getting demoted at 0 lp takes 4 tries but i get demoted one try

If they were just recently promoted, then they have to play 3/10 games before they can be demoted depending on if it's a division/tier.

Beyond that, demotions are based on your mmr. If you have an mmr that is well above your rank, then it can sometimes be possible to lose dozens of games at 0LP with a demotion even without shielding. On the other hand if your mmr is below that of your rank, it can be possible to be demoted even with a single game loss at 0lp (assuming they don't have their just-promoted shielding still).

I lost like 8 games at plat elo with 0lp and didn't get demoted :V I think you only get demoted if your MMR doesn't match the elo you're in like if you're in gold and have bronze elo, you'll get demoted in two losses in a row.
