You can be right - they started it, they said that they are trolling, taunt you, feed your lane etc..

It doesn't mean you can punish them, and riot decided that flaming them isn't considered self-defence.

Think when some one the street tells you that you are a "jerk" it don't let you the authority to bash their heads, right?

The system decides, after a trial, what punishment is acceptable, maybe you think we should rape him and hang him for that, but I guess that society can't function properly when everyone decides for themselves what is the best punishment.

Basically you are auto judged for your actions or what you typed out, the Automated system doesn't detect or care for the Why's and the How's.

Raging or flaming does not make the situation better and more than likely makes it worse for others besides you.

It basically doesn't matter is your ahead or if they started trolling or flaming your first.

you have to remember it's an "automated system" it's detecting your "report" and "stfu"

Consider this a warning honestly. Cause even after your restriction is lifted, you best believe Riot keeps track and if you continue to be caught with bad/negative behavior in chat, you could go from suspension to full ban.

keep in mind also "inciting a report" aka "report <player_name>" is considered bad behavior and should be done after the game, Preferably.

most likely you were reported as "Negative behaviour" and/or "Grieving" or "Giving up"

bad games happen all the time, There is soo many things in League can effect a game.

Here's the thing though: if all you're using chat for is to harass and berate other players then the problem lies with you and not the system. Why? Because you're not using chat to communicate you're using it to tick other people off. Also, you don't have to use chat exclusively to communicate: there's also smart pings you can use as well. If you feel that using chat is a problem for you then you could always just mute all, unbind your enter key or move the chat box off the screen and just use pings to communicate with your team.

In your games whenever things go south you resort to name-calling, report calling and just general negativity for the rest of the game. Even if you had a troll in them so what? Your behavior only contributed to the negative environment and annoyed people enough to report you for your poor behavior. Next time just mute, report and move on if you see someone's intent on making the game miserable for everyone or try to diffuse the situation in a calm and respectful manner without resorting to insults and the like.

P.S. Before you say it you are judged based on your behavior alone just like they are. If they keep up that behavior they'll have their own reform card and punishment just like you did here.

I never said it was a perfect solution, and it could be potentially improved, but it is an option if one is unwilling or unable to use chat constructively.

I'm pretty sure I get feeding team mates more than anyone that plays this game and I don't act like that. I might bitch and moan about surrendering but I'd never treat others like that. I agree it is generally mild. However, that's not my gripe. If you've ever been on the receiving end of one of this, you'd realize it's not the words itself that actually annoy but the constant stream of it. When someone makes it their mission to piss on you from minute one to the end of the game, and they target you exclusively, you will understand the true depths of why this kind of behavior is despicable. I've told people some fucked up shit, but never unprompted and never every single minute of the game.

If I'm to be totally honest about this. Overall toxic behavior doesn't really bother me. It's the fact that when I engage in it, I get promptly punished yet other people shit on me and they get no punishment. The unfairness in the system is really why I like to see people being punished. It's for all the times I got punished for much less than this and others keep getting away with worse.

I remember I had an int feeder the other day who's still playing. Yet when I inted a few months back, I was banned like instantly. And my reason for inting for totally valid. But the dude in my recent game inted with no valid reason. The punishment system is bullshit and it's unfair. I think it needs to go. Let us deal with toxic behavior in our own way.
