You've heard of damage creep, you've heard of mobility creep. Introducing jungle monster creep!

> {quoted} > > Current plan is a small item update similar to the juggernaut update but not as big as the marksmen and mage update. We are also looking into the stealth system and possibly adding a objective that Assassins are particularly good at taking to make them more meaningful to the team. [emphasis added] These are all in early development though so it's hard to say what will or won't stick.

As can be seen from this quote, we may be looking at another objective this preseason. We had Baby Baron added last season. Rift scuttle the one before. An additional camp when the jungle was revamped. You know what? Screw it. We should have jungle creeps in our base. Not just one camp, no sir, that wouldn't be enough. We need three camps in our base.

For the sarcastically impaired, I'm not a fan of this. There needn't be an objective for every class to take to make them more meaningful for the team. Call me old-fashioned, but I like design simplicity and more organic play than the contrivances and forced gameplay that objectives for a particular class brings.

I read objective as goal in this case. Assassins don't have a clear cut way to necessarily "win game", as their design is mostly built around the ability inhibit the hell out of the opponents ability to win game.

Think of it like this:

  • Marksman are the best class at tearing through objectives in general.
  • Supports are designed around balancing Gold for the team from a macro perspective, allowing you to allocate the otherwise limited resource towards the carries.
  • Mages clear waves fantastically.
  • Tanks come with unique utilities to protect carries or even support their efforts, such as champions like Nunu or items like Zz'Rot Portal.
  • Fighters, while primarily a combat class, has its fair share of champions like Shyvana that can play the objective game alone, whereas the other classes work best in unity with each other.
  • Assassins however are almost entirely a combat class with very little to no design space dedicated towards macro gameplay. Killing enemy carries is a hinderance for the enemy, not necessarily a gain for your team.

If Riot gives Assassins a major objective to strive for to allow them to contribute positive effects towards their team winning rather than entirely just negative effects towards the enemy team, that'd be great for their macro strategy towards a given game.

isnt rift herald already a particularly good assassin objective?

since theyre usually split pushing or trying to catch out isolated targets while theyre on their own, the rift herald buff strikes me as one that was always most useful to assassins with the added damage from 100 stacks on auto attacks.

the damage reduction is really strong on bruisers, though its generally a really strong buff when it comes to duelling.

most of the time i tend to give it to my jungler if hes an assassin.
