Lux is broken and has NO counterplay

So I just played against Lux mid as Vel Koz, I realize that her AOE is almost impossible to miss but that's just one major flaw, the thing is if you put down the AOE (which is a very large area of effect), you get so (25-45%) slowed that unless Lux has never played LoL before she can without any skill what so ever land her Stun, yes a STUN(edit: actually it's a root sorry my bad, huge difference but the point about being burst down faster and harder stands), now you can't do anything, so she activates her AOE and bam half HP down, but wait she no cooldown on her Ultimate which also procs her passive so unless you have flash you are fucked.

THAT is broken. I'm very interested in seeing any counter argument to how to play against her.

"has NO counterplay"

That's a pretty bold statement with a context of "I lost to a Lux, nerf pls"

{quoted}

Lux has never played LoL before she can without any skill what so ever land her Stun, yes a STUN

Well, as a Lux main, I can offer you many ways to play against her...

  1. Lux is useless when her spells are on cooldown — namely, her snare (it is NOT a stun). So, if the Lux wastes her CDs on a minion wave or is too aggressive with her Q, you can easily shut a Lux down that way. Her spells legitmately have an ungodly high cooldown, which is one of the few reasons why I actually don't like playing Lux. Additionally, the mana costs of each spell are incredibly high, which is also a bummer to me, but it's fair. If a Lux is wasteful of her mana or spells, then she'll be entirely defenseless.

  2. If you're not too comfortable with dodging Lux's Q, Cleanse or Quicksilver Sash is always an option. It will remove the CC immediately. Mercury Treads help reduce the CC while giving you some MR. Boots of Swiftness reduce slows while making you a little faster in and out of combat as opposed to other tier 2 boots, so you can dodge skillshots a little easier.

  3. All of the spells are quite slow and can easily be dodged. It might take some practice, but they're all quite easy to dodge — especially her most annoying spells (Q and ultimate). You just have to work on your reaction time. The spells are very telegraphed, and her ultimate has, what, a 2 second windup time? You just have to train your brain and your hands to coordinate better. Like, as soon as you see a little red beam, you'd better get the hell outta the way, because her ultimate is gonna hit you like a truck — especially if the Lux has her passive on you or if she procs Thunderlord's.

  4. Most inexperienced people that play against Lux make the mistake of dodging forward or backward — rather than left or right. So, one of the most common mistakes people make is running at Lux in a straight line. Well, what does she have in her kit? A linear skillshot. And which one is it? The Q that snares people and sets up her ENTIRE spell rotation. Work on being unpredictable in your dodge pattern. A good Lux can pick up on people's dodge patterns very quickly and adjust to them. If you feel so inclined as to chase after the Lux (which I don't recommend doing so if you're running into an area with no vision), MAKE SURE HER Q IS DOWN FIRST. IF NOT, WALK IN A SLIGHT ZIG ZAG.

  5. Observe the Lux player's tendencies. Observe their patterns in which they throw their spells. Adjust your dodging as necessary. Surely, if the one champion you're having issues with is Lux, I think it's fair for me to assume you're in low elo or unranked. In turn, there's a good chance that the Lux player isn't too terribly skilled or trained in the sense that THEY WILL GET FRUSTRATED LIKE WILDFIRE IF YOU DODGE THEIR Q CONSTANTLY. Dodging the E is a little easier. If the Lux player is like me, they'll anticipate where the enemy will be and cast the E a little behind where the enemy is currently so that the enemy will walk into the damage. Not all do, but an experienced Lux player probably will. So, adjust your dodge pattern as necessary. Off the record... I don't recommend tilting people as a strategy, but this is an easy way to win versus a Lux. Frustrate them by dodging their skillshots so that they're useless, and they don't have many items or CS. Yes? Then, you you won't have to worry about your teammates getting picked off by Lux and snowballing her lead even further.

  6. As bronze as this sounds, a common strategy for a Lux to do is hide in a bush and pick people off. It's as simple as that. So... Ward, ward, WARD!!! Assuming you're versus a Lux mid lane, ALWAYS upgrade to Farsight Alteration (blue trinket). Stock up on control wards. Vision wins games. Encourage your jungler and support to buy sweepers. Go with them to clear wards faster and to ensure their safety. If you don't have wards, and the Lux is MIA, do NOT facecheck. Either check with your spells or take a safer route.

  7. If you're an AP mid laner, buy a Banshee's Veil and/or a Zhonya's Hourglass. They're both excellent choices versus a Lux. However, in most cases, I would, personally, take the Zhonya's versus the Lux so that you can Zhonya's the ultimate. Buy Mercury Treads instead of Sorcerer's Boots so that you'll have your MR. You'd probably just have to go Void Staff third item if they're stacking MR on their team. Or you could still go Sorcerer's Boots, but I'd buy a Null Magic Mantle still at the very least — maybe a Negatron Cloak if you're 110% sure that you will NOT be building the Null Magic Mantle into a Banshee's Veil.

  8. She doesn't scale well, at all. Even in the late game, her spells don't do much, unless you or a teammate don't buy any form of magic resist. Lux is one of the most useless mages late game that I've ever played. Her cooldowns are still incredibly high, and the burst isn't too spectacular, still. At least other artillery mages, such as Ziggs or Vel'Koz, have lower CDs and do better in teamfights with their hard/soft AoE CC, and they're able to dish out more damage over the course of a few seconds and then have their CDs be up only moments later (if not, immediately).

Hope this helps. I will update this if I think of anything. Good luck versus the Lady of Luminosity! xo

"No counterplay"

Lux has skill shots for every move in her kit as a mage.

Sorry if you don't know how to dodge or read moves. "BUT SHE SLO-" just fucking move.

Eternal Torment9/10/2017, 4:55:35 PM3 votes

Lux Skill shots are easy to dodge. they all have very slow travel time and also a long animation. you can literally dodge her E by Walking Forward because lux Players have the habit to clip the center slightly behind an enemy since they anticipate you will walk backwards to evade it.

her snare can be sidestepped.

her R can be sidestepped

her shield isn't even damaging

her passive pre 6 makes her come very close to proc it. if she tries to trade early poke the living hell out of her.

As a vel'koz you have a stronger pre 6 but afterwards she has the means to Counter you efficiently. Just try to poke her out, maybe even go as far as to max W first to escalate lane pressure by cleaning waves faster, but don't directly fight her unless you can kill her in one E-Q-W rotation

only 4 skillshots xd also snare

Craft Zeppelin9/10/2017, 3:58:20 PM2 votes

Well, I must agree, lux E is hardly a "skill" shot. But because of that you must NOT stand in your minions and force her to choose minions or you.

The downside is of course you will be exposing yourself to her snare. But that is the same to her as well. You have more brute firepower. Smash all those buttons on her and press that barrier.

Shuyin1789/10/2017, 4:03:10 PM2 votes

How to lane vs Lux : Force her to push the wave by standing behind minions. Move Left or Right to avoid her snare.

That will be $20.

Khristophoros9/10/2017, 4:46:49 PM1 votes

Hi I main Vel'Koz. It's a bad matchup for Vel'Koz. Don't try to land your combo on her because during your ult channel she has time to land her full combo before she dies. The only way you're gonna kill her is if you get her low with pokes first. At level 6 just start roaming. Don't try to kill her.

Nut on my Butt9/10/2017, 4:40:17 PM1 votes

I would rather lane against a Lux than a Vel'Koz any day. She at least has palpable cds and mana costs.

Literally just max W and outpush her.

EarthyMadness9/10/2017, 4:59:17 PM1 votes

Huh, this is a cool 48% average winrate

But, what's this? Her winrate is even lower vs Vel'Koz?

It's almost like you're just making baseless claims with little-to-no evidence to back it up.

hi ìm groot9/10/2017, 4:09:24 PM1 votes

Lux's win rate is outrageously low for you to be calling her "OP". Maybe you should start thinking about what you can do to play better against her?

Bishasaurus Flex9/10/2017, 5:10:36 PM1 votes

In WoW and other games, a snare is a movement impairing effect that allows the one slowed to still attack etc.

In League for some reason people use the terms "snare" and "root" as if they mean the same thing. In WoW a "root" just means you are in place for a few seconds, and a "stun" is being unable to do anything at all while in place.

Idk why, but it really bothers me still. I guess because I started playing WoW before League.

Truly Prideful9/10/2017, 5:41:32 PM1 votes

As Vel'koz pre-6 you can punish Lux pretty hard with E-W-Q if she ever tries to proc her passive with an auto. Also, post-6 your combo is just as devastating to land and will hurt just as much if not more. If you're having that much trouble you can always let her push in, she's super easy to gank for most of the junglers since she's slow with no mobility.

Míellá9/10/2017, 6:11:13 PM1 votes

Lux might be able to 1 shot you, but she is not able to defend her self. Her Q travels to slow and is easy to dodge and her shield is weak. Jump at her or stun her, then burst her down. Thats the counterplay.

I remember your account author, i saw you in game of a yasuo streamer player who destroyed you yesterday in a charity event , he was with a cassio in botlane. You was so funny. How it's possible to play that bad and be so toxic in bronze 3. Do you go to school ? ^^

Velkoz vs lux XD

Yeah she have no counterplay Its not like you can avoid her entire kit as zed right?

King of Demons9/11/2017, 2:47:13 AM1 votes

Try buying Zhonyas or QSS/Bring Cleanse and she becomes worthless. You can negate her ultimate and thus like 60% of her damage by simply having one of these and using it. If she hits you with a Q, you SHOULD die. You can still use items, you can avoid getting hit in the first place.

Mamacrow9/13/2017, 5:04:24 PM1 votes

If I can survive against every lux I play as annie, and I'm only focusing on farm, and I out cs her without dying. You can to :) You just need to understand that some matchups it's better to focus on farm than harass. Vel'Koz is better for the teamfights anyways, so just make sure you pick up as much farm as you can.

BullsI8084/23/2018, 2:05:12 AM1 votes

visual effects of her abilities dont match the size of their hit boxes. fix your game riot. Visual effects SHOULD ALWAYS match the hit boxes. ALWAYS. Being a raider in world of warcraft, visual effects of abilities and mechanics means a lot to me and i get pissed off when they are larger than what it shows on the screen. Do yourselves a favor riot and fix your game.
