I know that seems really obvious, but it's mindboggling how many people in yolo que are oblivious to the map. If you pay attention to pings, you will for sure win more games. I'm not great, but it makes me so sad to see people with better mechanics feed miserably because they simply don't look. 75% of the time, the minimap gives you enough information to prevent dieing and to prevent losses. Sometimes you get outplayed, but too often people just stand still in their lanes while their jungle gets 2v1 invaded, or the whole enemy team walks across a ward for a second then ganks bot and takes two towers. Just look, and we'll all have alot more fun.

What's the point of looking at a mini map with no wards?

Jks. But people seriously need to use it...and wards.

sure look at the minimap, but more importantly use good judgement. I think its quite sad that i will take out the lvl 2 tier bot tower...and i see quite clearly that 5 ppl are coming to kill me. and sure they kill me and we got lvl 2 bot tower (more than worth). And then someone going nuts with pings, and after i die they are like 'look at minimap'...and meanwhile i assume they looked at minimap so i dont understand why they didnt decide to take out the lvl 1 tower on top....pretty pathetic really.

It's not so mindboggling if you think about what factors can cause people to forget their minimap.

Fatigue - Probably the most common, as I'm prone to this as well. Playing tons of games back-to-back, you'll notice your performance eventually dropping due to slower reactions and loss of attention.

Tilt - When on tilt, players may forget simple things like warding, pings, and glancing at the minimap. All because of stress.

Distracted - Some people aren't always putting in 100% of their focus into the game. In fact, there's a friend of mine who seems to be on his phone texting half the time, making him prone to walking past a hotzone with tons of warning/assist pings.

Forgetfulness - I'm sure everybody's had those moments where they think "Dangit, I forgot to do _______" (Activate Zhonyas, ward, etc). In this case, not everybody remembers to check the minimap or chat for anything that needs attention.

End Note: You won't always come across a team full of people that are 100%. Just remember that even though this is a competitive genre of gaming, it's still just a game, and there will be people who want to treat it as one.
