Ezreal and Lethality

Would a Lethality build work well on Ezreal? I don't play Ezreal much so I don't really know. I imagine it would be something akin to Varus's current build.

What I do know about Ezreal is that his current build tries to utilize sheen procs coupled with on hit effects to boost the damage on his Q. Lethality would make both his Q and Ult sting more in theory as well. However I could see that Ezreal wanting a sheen item could push his Lethality build back too late into the game to make it as effective as his current build.

That being said I think Lethality would be a beneficial thing to stack on Ezreal.

i tried it before but its not as good at you think, but its not bad either, and his ult is magic damage the only thing that leath would help ez is his q

Ez is a pretty good pick in lethality meta, as he can build iceborn, and not take true damage from other ADCs.

His ult does magic damage. The only physical damage he has is his Q.

I think you've hit most of the issues in your post. He has several notable physical damage sources that don't scale with AD or Crit:

  • Q base damage [35-115] (but not the ult, it does magic damage)
  • Sheen/Triforce proc [110-193]
  • Muramana [6% current mana]
  • BoRK on-hits, if you build that (but remember his Q has 110% AD scaling when comparing with Bloodthirster or Death's Dance)

The main reason Lethality items became popular on the other marksmen has been to give them earlier power spikes compared to the more expensive crit items. However, because Ezreal needs to build Triforce and Muramana first, the Lethality items come in much later than they do for the standard Lethality marksman build. While this doesn't necessarily make them worthless, especially if you are playing into a no tank comp and people are not building defensive items, it does take away some of the reason people build them instead of/before crit items.

Without that reason to build them, you end up having to decide if it is better to focus on hitting six items faster and optimizing for the spell and proc damages with the Lethality items or further building up the auto you will be using between spells with critical strike items. I think a Last Whipser item fits into either build path, if needed for tank busting.

Usually, I run Lethality in my runes playing Ezreal and go more crit focused after the Triforce/Muramana core.

Oddly enough, Ezreal is a magic damage adc, only your Q does physical damage and your autos of course, sadly lethality would leave you oom in no time and while your Q will be doing more damage, the rest of your kit won't be scaling as much since lethality items don't give as much AD as say item 3072 and they don't directly empower your Q with bonus damage, it simply penetrates armor so your Q hits a bit more but definitely less than if you built a item 3078 or you'd be losing the utility of the constant slow from item 3025
