PSA: Stay Loyal to your Main!

TyrekGoldenspear··176 votes·9,509 views

Much like Pokemon your favorite "lucky" marble, you have to be loyal to your main, and play the crap out of them no matter what.

If you have a wonderful winning streak, stay with your main!

If you have a terrible losing streak, don't give up! Stay with your main!

A main is a champion that is supposed to be your companion in League, to stick with you through thick and thin, a champion that you love to play not because you get freelo or you stomp everybody with them. You have to have fun playing your main even if you're losing. Your main should be an extension of you in the game, your conduit into Valoran and Summoner's Rift. Your reactions have to be precise, your damage calculation imperative for last hitting. You have to love your main's VO, their abilities, their nuances that make them 3D characters.

Sorry for the ramble, but I see so many people main a champ because they start losing and throw their champ away and try to learn a new one.

EDIT: according to people who actually play Pokemon, rip me, my analogy was stupid. XD

So uh, have this temporary substitute until I can think of something else.

EDIT 2 : It's perfectly fine to have multiple mains, especially if you play multiple roles.

EDIT 3: Woo! This is the first discussion I have ever started that broke 100 upvotes! Thank you all so much for your comments and upvotes! Internet cookies for all!

Annie is so much okay since the Mage update, the perfect rework, I hated her before, now she's balanced af.

TheMinez7 votes

Meh, I used to just left click on her to see how many stacks of her passive she had, it almost never surprised me when she stunned. The thing that surprised me was the reaction time for the counterplay of Annie Flash ult and the damage she did with that. Now she got a better tibbers and slightly more visual counterplay... I personally think she got much stronger with the 6.9 update.

Abyssphere3 votes

It's not just the extra visual counterplay, it's that you can actually dodge her combo now. I see people flash away from her Tibbers now and they could never do that before, it always makes me happy to see.

Word of advice passed on down to me by another. Main a champion people don't consider overpowered.

EcchiOtakuTM12 votes

So don't main any champion in the game just because of what someone else thinks?

That's dumb you're playing for yourself, not them.

Woodakoodashooda18 votes

How does one main a champion that is almost constantly banned?

EcchiOtakuTM4 votes

Not all "overpowered" mains are banned constantly.... what type of argument is that?

-_-

Just because something has a CHANCE to be banned doesn't mean you should stop maining it, just look at jinx, incredibly op, not catching the ban hammer albeit popular.

MonkeyMadness2 votes

look at jinx, incredibly op

Um, wat?

EcchiOtakuTM3 votes

If you can't see jinx's power you're blind. Next you'll say sol isn't OP right?

MonkeyMadness4 votes

Powerful? yes. Overpowered? lol no...

EcchiOtakuTM3 votes

OP is opinion-based, some don't like AoE crits and her hypercarry potential just like some don't like janna's peeling or sol's laning and late game power. Jinx is on the balanced side yes, but she IS pretty OP atm with her counters being weaker atm.

MonkeyMadness5 votes

OP means requires either a specific strategy and/or teamcomp to counterplay, and lack this specific counter play option will almost certainly result in a loss. Rule of thumb, if a champ is permabanned, they are probably op. Jinx is like never banned.

EcchiOtakuTM6 votes

Jinx's play rate and win rate are overbearingly high since her main counters are lackluster thus elevating her even further.

Janna can shut down many comps with her peeling power too, rarely banned. You're going to argue she isn't OP too just cause she isn't perma-banned?

Champs can start growing OP if their counters or competition get nerfed, in case you havn't noticed. Hopefully riot doesn't nerf either and just slightly buff their counters, cause while they're very dominant atm it's mostly due to nothing to deal with them being prevalent. So yes, OP is subjective since you can't seem to agree.

And I still don't agree that all perma-banned are OP, zed still the same to deal with to this day. It's simply cause the QSS change(which only affected adcs) that caused a knee-jerk reaction. All ban means is there's heavy dislike for a said champion even if they aren't OP. Not saying there's bans due to OP picks but automatically tying a champion's OP-ness to ban rate isn't good at all.

If you keep switching every time a new champion is the new strongest one, you don't main them. You're riding the bandwagon.

SwaggyMcGhee42015 votes

Or you're playing the meta, which is very effective for climbing.

Astôlfo28 votes

But... that's not maining a champion. That's just adapting and picking the strongest champions to try and do well.

CarameI Frappe6 votes

I don't feel good when I play a champion like Soraka who's pretty much freelo in ranked. I like winning with my main Leona and proving myself through skill over meta picks. I'm not dissing people who play strong champs to win, it's a valid strategy. But if I were to join the bandwagon in playing OP champions, it wouldn't feel like a win that was earned, you know?

What playstyle did Old Fiora enforce?

Maybe there's a champ out there that still uses that playstyle.

Kled's passive W can shred towers pretty fast.

I will try picking up kled but want about his dueling power?

Kled's passive W can shred people pretty fast.

legionnaire992 votes

Kled w is the 3 rengo q with the 4th being max health?

Ralanr10 votes

Kinda. The kicker is that you can't hold it back. When it's up Kled's attacks will utilize it no matter what.

It depended on how you wanted to play.

She was a glass cannon with a strong early game BUT countered by most top lane match-ups. She only had an upper hand on: Kennen, Teemo, Jayce, Gnar, Vayne, Yi. And I think that's about it. She was countered by like the majority of top laners (phanteon, quinn, malphite, yorik, udyr, lulu, lissandra, swain, you name it). And most of those that didn't counter her (ie: riven) she had a skill match-up with them.

She had no escapes, and had to build pure glass cannon. Which made it EXCITING, and adrenaline rushing. Because she was a very very snowball champion. Didn't require a lot of mechanical skill, but it required you to be smart, to time your aggression and guts to go balls deep.

She was a good team fighter (due to ultimate) even when behind as you would deal some aoe damage with that and hydra even if you died a lot. You would die instantly afterwards but hey, if you feed all game long, you deserve that. She was very fun and simple to use.

She couldn't 1v1 everyone when not feed, but on average she could deal enough damage in team fights to make it count (she only had damage). And she fucking had counterplay. Her entire kit was auto attack based (her ult applied auto attacks), her Q was the only move that dealt significant damage and wasn't auto attack based. Her W did a bit of magic damage and protected you from one crucial auto attack. So, just ninja tabi would've reduced her entire damage by 10%. Her Q was more predictable and counterable by cc because she couldn't block the god damm cc. Armor would've also counter her kit. And lets not forget, her ult would also have a large portion of its damage mitigated by.... said armor or shields or heals... The only lackluster part of her kit was her passive.

But then they gave her Free dash in any direction with low cd. Ability to block any kind of cc and damage. %max hp true damage a more complex kit and more team wise utility (stun, slow, aoe heal) changed model, changed lore, changed the skins ... ..... ........ have fun, the moment her numbers are SLIGHTLY out of touch, she becomes broken due to how overloaded her new kit is.

I play Sion because I find him fun. That's the gist of it.

There are few things more fun than running down a lane screaming about cowards, so you can smash into an adc and combo them to death.

Votable Jester7 votes

I was happy with the Vel'koz rework actually.

The Malzahar one was ok besides his passive being annoying af.

I seriously hate the Veigar change though. He already reached absurd amounts of AP before even when you bullied him. Now he can reach higher levels of AP, and bully you. Though I know that many people are completely fine with Veigar, and he's just one of those few champions I personally dislike playing against.
