So I finished my placement games on my secondary account and I got silver 5 which honestly I'm so happy about cause my goal. Was silver, but I'm honestly so confused. I won 2 out of 10 games. And on my main account I got bronze 4 but won I believe 4 out of my 10 games.. How is that possible? I'm so confused.

Riot's ranked system was originally based around a number called ELO. Now that number is invisible and renamed MMR (Match Making Rating). When you do your placements it uses your last season MMR and your win percentage. Since your alt account doesn't have an MMR to go off of it is dependant on the enemy MMR. It determines that you are not of gold level, but not quite bronze based on your win ratio against enemies of varying MMR. Sounds like you tanked the MMR of your main account to be honest.

How old is your main account and how old is the secondary account?

You are matched off your MMR and your record in your placements ranked you based off of the MMR you played.

If your old account had a lower MMR then even tho you won more games those games were considered against easier opponents.

If your 2nd account is new and playing ranked for the 1st time then you start at the starting point for MMR.....which in your case might be higher than your main account was....which is why with only 2 wins you still got silver 5

Let me guess: Your main account has previous seasons of ranked and the new one does not.

The reason is: Placements are not "X out of 10 games = Y Rank", that's not how it works. Who you play against matters. Placement games are meant to, naturally, help the ranked system place you at a suitable starting point by gathering information from your performance against the players you play against. Your main account has the previous seasons, so the matches were against lower level opponents and it feels comfortable in placing you at Bronze 4 level for you start and learn from and climb from. Your new account does not have the history, it doesn't know that, it's not informed so the system was more conservative in its placement and put you at Silver 5 instead of a more suitable rank.

Thanks guys! :) this was very helpful. That actually makes sense to me now. I hadn't played ranked on my newer account so those were my very first placement games I have had that account for I think a year but didn't play ranked last year. And the other one I have had for yeaaars and played ranked every year I have played. So it does make sense to me now that I'd get higher place on my secondary account. Thanks for the information :)

Because riot (IDIOTICALLY) gives new accounts a ranked MMR around high silver, tbh the only people this "helps" are smurfs, because legitimate new players will often end up silver and face opponents far above their skill level and have trouble demoting since its hard to go down a whole league, meanwhile they are making other people whether its true silver players or bronzes trying to get to silver tear their hair out b/c they end up in their games and are not at that skill level.

But hey, if youre a diamond player whose main account gets placed poorly "you don't have to climb on that account just make a new one win a bunch op placements and start out gold or potentially platinum"

Honestly its bullshit.
