Lost 28 points to a team who had 581 LP higher + 4 promos

I just lost 28 points to a team who had 581 more LP than my team did, including the 4 promotional series they had on us as well. I don't see how this is fair when I'm only winning about 14-18 points per win. Why can't the system just match me against people who are the same rank as me? The queue time was average it wasn't like I waited 10 minutes. Riot claims to have 27 million players on the game daily so I don't see the problem with matching people with the same rank as me. And winning/ losing the same amount of points. That would seem fair to me... not winning a little amount of points, then playing people who are better than me and losing a lot of points.
