An ACTUAL solution to the issue of Normal Urf vs Random Urf

What I am about to say may just blow Riot's mind. It's so obvious that its actually stupid--but you heard this here first-- I am pretty sure SOMEONE at Riot will most likely read the solution and won't implement it. I'm guessing they'll tell themselves some "fancy" reason as to why it just wouldn't work, or come up with "it's not that simple". But deep down inside, we'll know that-that person is probably just too stubborn to admit that I'm right on this. It's ok Riot, I forgive you.

As we all know, Riot said (apparently) there were lots of complaints going around due to several champion's having the abilities/functionality which allows them to naturally excel within URF (e.g., Hec, Eve, Fiora), resulting in those champs always being picked. Therein of course this created a "borning-ness" or unfairness for some players who attempted to play other less popular champs, and got rofl-stomped because that champ was either just bad in the confines of URF (e.g., Singed & Yasuo), or the actual player just wasn't efficient with them. So what did Riot do to help? Randomize! Woot woot!! This way NO ONE can pick ANY champion they wanted to try out! wait...what?... (=. = ) . To no surprise everyone reacted crappily towards Riot, not only before it was released, but definitely afterwards. I actually still read posts-after-post-after-post on how everyone basically wants to throw up all over the whole the "random urf" idea (to be fair!..I DID read maybe two or three posts where someone said they were happy with random-urf).

So, is there a solution to get both sides happy? (jeez finally he gets to the point).

What if................ I were to tell you.. we could just give people both options, (two clickable options) ................ atomic bomb MMmmIIIIND BLOOOWWN ***window/glash shattering sounds --*EXPLosions sounds everwyher *cruise+ nukes "GAhh! His power it's..ITS--OVUR NINE THOUURRRSUNDDDDD!"

No really, I mean REALLY--...how bad would it hurt to just make a clicky-click option? I mean hell we already did it with "Ranked/Non Ranked. "Hey kids wanna play ranked? blind? draft? Non-ranked?" There's a button for that! "Wanna play Urf? random Urf ---my GOD there's a button for that too!"

BOTH. SIDES. HAPPY.

Ok ....I think Im done with my rant. Thank you.

I agree, there should be two options and the people who click to queue up for non random urf should get a pop up saying that they failed the test and are now locked out of rotating game modes for the rest of the week. The rest of the people who are interested in playing the game mode rather than only a small handful of bulshit champs will then go on to enjoy themselves without the people who would be spending all of their rerolls and dodging queues whenever they didn't get a top tier urf pick.

Either way this WILL still in most circumstances cause uneven teams. Much like ARAM and is not acceptable.

They need to continue with the all or nothing mindset.

  • Queue times are not a direct correlation to population. If exactly 10 people played urf but they all queue up at the same time back to back they would all have instant queues. The reason game modes do not have instant queues generally is because matchmaking attempts to make the best compromise between queue time and match quality, and so effort will be made to select players with a similar range of skill and ping among other things to keep the matches as fair as possible. This is more important in more serious game modes so more emphasis is placed on finding similarly skilled players, in 'arcade' type gamemodes like urf there is little point in making a serious attempt at matchmaking compared to a more serious one so the queues tend to be shorter. Riot can make queues take as little or as long as they want for any game mode based on how they want to make the tradeoff between aspects of match quality.
  • Riot has come out with data multiple times, especially during their AMAs and threads where they explained what rotating game modes are and why they want to switch to that system, and in that data they show that modes like urf have historically had a spike of interest on the first day that rapidly drops to almost zero after three days, but that the initial spike of interest is pretty reliable - that's one of the big reasons why they switched to rotating modes more often but for only three days.
  • I spend a lot of time every day on the forums and posts for or against urf are not common enough to catch my eye unless the mode is either coming up soon on rotation or is currently up or just finished its rotation. Any other time people tend to be much more interested in other things like the state of the meta, how pbe changes will effect certain champions, how new skins are great or bad, or whatever. At least on this gameplay board and gd. The only people who have energy or interest in urf one way or the other seem to be the die hard urf fans.

This was a nice read and brought a smile to my face but i think you are getting to excited.

Point 1: Only a good game designer would implement such a amazing feature but sadly this is Riot we are talking about... listening to the community isn't there best feature by far. I strongly doubt we will even get URF 24/7, let alone URF + random at the same time. Even as a featured mode, they just wont do it :/

Point 2: People have suggested many alternatives but just like the countless threads, they all fall on deaf ears. Dominion on customs had a way smaller population then URF and yet i always found hide and seek lobbies, so when people say "no one will play it after awhile" you know thats just bs.

Come on Riot! how many times do i have to play the same boring, slow placed, toxic modes for! WE WANT URF NOW!!!!
