How to dodge skill-shots (please help)

Hi,

I just was in a game vs a morgana and it was like he is inside my head, knowing all my movement patterns down to Q predicting the exact half second that I will be at the side of the creep wave.

I know that if I could dodge skill shots only with reaction time my laning phase will improve miraculously, and even maybe team fighting (especially cause Vayne is my main (her passive plus Q cd should make it easier to dodge skill shots and I need to be in close range for dmg)).

From my understanding there are three different types of dodges -

  • prediction - you dodge before the enemy even fire the skill shot, predicting that he wI'll fire it and side step.

  • 50-50 reaction - you hear/see that he fired/firing his skill-shot but you don't know to where so you side step randomly hoping it won't hit you.

  • 100-reaction - you see him fire the skill shot, you know what will be it's projection and exactly to were you need to dodge

My 50-50 and prediction isn't so bad(still need a lot of work tho) , but my 100 reaction is kinda bad, I can't consistently do it every day and most of the time I can't.

I encountered few tips on the Web, and some I came by myself -

  • go to a site named aim-booster and play the game.

  • go to ARAM and try to dodge and every time you failed try to understand why.

  • watch recorded games and every time the champion starts his skill-shot pause the game and predict to where it will go (even before the skill shot is even out, just by the animation of the character before he releas the shot).

  • watch the character animation for the skill shot 1000 times and predict to where it will go until you always noticing it before it even fired

If you have ideas/advices or want to point aomething out please share it here!

tl;dr - How to improve reaction time to skill-shots?

My personal preference is using ARAM as a practice tool for this.

For starters, you'll probably have skillshots from 3-4 champions to worry about in most games. If you can get to the point of being able to pay enough attention to 4 champions at once trying to poke you down, and dodge with reasonable success, then being in a 1v1 or 2v2 lane will feel pretty easy in comparison.

ARAM can also get you experience with playing as more champions, which is also very helpful when understanding how an opponent might use skillshots. Play enough, and you can get a better feel for the range, travel time, and width of hitboxes for a champion's abilities.

I also find it a much more fun/interesting way to learn these things than the other options you listed. But that's up to personal preference.

In the end, though, sometimes you're just going to come across that one player who is just in your head all game, and constantly landing things on you. Maybe they're just reading you like a book. Maybe your reaction time is just a little off for that game. Could be a lot of things.

Yeah I think I will try ARAM and if my performacne won't improve after a while I will try the other methods, hopefully the ARAM will do, as you said, it seems the fun option.

I guess to dodge a skill shot one need

  • hear or see the animation start

  • figure the path it gonna take

  • figure where you are

  • dodge to the right location

Now the question is if knowing the specific animation really helps, maybe you just need to hear him and see to where he is facing and than dodge,

if it the case ARAM is all that you need, (and maybe somehow to improve the ability to know exactly where you are in the map, and the ability to draw a stright line from the character to the direction he is facing, and the ability to know exactly where is your mouse cursor)

it helps to buy boots early. and if you're able to forego the attack speed swifty boots are very much a boon to kiting especially against the stickier tanks.

Oh yeah I always wanted to try the swifties, will try them next game for sure.

I know how to kite, my problem is that I don't always dodge to the right location and get hit anyways (with vayne you can just press Q to dodge so it's simpler)

prrrrrrrrrractice prrrrrrrrrractice prrrrrrrrrractice basically. learn ALL the skillshots and where they commonly fire, their effective ranges and/or if you're able to cower behind minions to dodge them.

I know what skill shots they have, when they will propably shoot them, what is their speed and what is the minimum range I need to be safe from them (I can dodge max range lux q)

My problem is that I want to be close to them and deal dmg and when that skill shot comes just dodge it and keep doing dmg to them, if I'm far cause I can't dodge skill shots I also don't do any dmg ;/

well. I mean skillshots do tend to work like that, less time to react in closer proximity. there's like one korean that's known for being able to do that but other than having god tier reflexes and stacking movement speed really you just gotta play safe around them.

I see, you're saying that maybe it's barely human possible and not worth the time.. interesting.. I will check it before I start

no point in giving up but alls I'm sayin is it's one of those things that take years to get down and most of that is playing the mindgames properly (so I hear)

I'd tell you what the korean dude's name is but I don't know it off the top of my noggin.
