I have to say that I've been very happy with his change but now he's just OP with his ult change, 40% max hp... Demacian justice isn't black magicsof HP its a damn execution for the glorious and righteous demacia. Stop buffing my champion, If you want to buff someone help zilean. His social security benefits just aren't enough

it did and still deals 40% missing health since forever...nothing changes. 1 damage per 2.5 health missing is 1/2.5 = 2/5 = 0.4 = 40%....

i'm also talking about PBE, and all they do is cleaning up the tooltip. Currently, it says 1 damage per 2.5 health missing. On PBE, it gets changed to 40%missing health. Hoever, 1 damage per(/) 2.5 health missing is exactly the same value as 40% of missing health.

the difference between magic damage and true damage is pretty massive. That's the difference between garen dealing 30% and 15% to a target with 100 mr, let alone the fact that hexdrinker is no longer a reliable item against garen.

just that both me and the OP reffered to the tooltip-cleanup, which had somw wording error in the beginning which made it seem like they buff his ult from missing to max or current health till they fixed it.

And yes, the main reason why garren has such a high winrate right now is the turedamage ult. You can't win the lane s him as melee, cause as soon as you kill him, you become the villian, so you earn insane truedamge. Just had a rene game vs Garren, go a level 6 solokill, died at level 7 to ~470 truedamage from the ult...

The damage hasn't changed whatsoever.

They just neated up the tooltip so it's easier to understand.

WRONG the dmg has changed it use to be magic damage now its true damage. You dont block true damage unless you have a karma/janna shield. Magic dmg can be reduced threw resistance.

We're talking about general damage, not damage to the villain. It only deals true damage to one enemy at a time unlike things like Darius's Ult which is always true damage.

Nothing has changed. They just reworded the damage output for clarity (a much needed clarity). And it's not max hp, it's missing hp.

It was a goof on the wording, the damage actually isn't changing, just the description.

Honestly, Garen's strong because his numbers are good. He'll still fail against coordinated teams that can keep him off their carries, and god knows Vayne isn't going anywhere anytime soon. The new items are a huge boon too, and with the flat bonus of MR and Magic, it's feasible to build mostly HP on him while still dealing respectable damage. I've been testing out Steraks, Cleaver, Titanic, Randuins, Visage, and Mercs and have been having a good time. I still don't think he'll be "competitively viable" because again his mobility is average, but he'll probably be able to do better in the solo queue scene, and might have a chance of not getting kited for ages.

He is about as competitive as top lane Shyvana back in season 4.

The reason is simple: he gets so much free stats and deals so much damage that he has to have multiple people peeling him and the ADC will be zoned; the ADC is the only relevant threat against Garen because he shrugs off burst damage. In the meantime your ADC gets free shots on their frontline.

It actualy is the exact same thing.... 1 damage per 2.5 hp missing is actualy 40% of mising hp. Let's say you are missing 100 hp, 40% of your missing hp is just 40. now, the old tooltip said 1 damage per 2.5 hp missing. 40 damage * 2,5= 100, your missing hp. It's the same.

i believe it's just a tooltip change. I took 44% his ultimate yesterday, though. If they cap it at 40% that's going to be a nerf believe it or not.

True story: Garen ulted me for 1309 true damage early-mid game, I was the jungle/tank. The rocket scientist with thin-telligence thinks that making garen godmode is fun, but they won't ninja hotfix him til next patch. gg

in order for him to ult you for 1309 true damage in "early/mid" ( and I'm giving you benfit of the doubt here and saying lvl 2 garen ult ) you'd need to be missing close to 3k hp and the villain.

in fact, that Garen most likely used his ult much later then he should have, and badly overkilled you.

unless of course your "early/mid" game tank jungler had over 4k hp. Shaco

Nope, I bearly had my jungle kit (cinderhulk, boots) and 1 pc (thornmail) I was the villain, the guy took me for more hp than I had at that moment according to the death recap.

It's PBE, Ryze also got few buffs there and he got smashed in next two patches. GP reworks is pretty fresh, he will get nerfed next patch.

Champions after reworks are always really fast to get pretty radical changes. Buffs or nerfs, but they end up eventually at pretty decent spot. If you think they will just buff Garen and leave him likethat for half a year you probably don't know this game too well.

Meddler posted an update that no Garen changes will be going out in the upcoming Juggernaut hotfix, which will include changes for Skarner and Darius.

"Quick update: No Garen changes in the hotfix. He's almost certainly too strong, and we'll probably go through with the nerfs in 5.17, he's not so out of line we need to act before the next regular patch though. Taking the time to assess how he's doing a bit more as a result."

Are you sure you're a Garen main? You SHOULD know at least that your ult scales with missing health already...

Yea obviously I knew that lol but in this change on PBE it WAS max HP in the tooltip not missing HP. They just made clarity of it an hour ago.

...It's 40% of missing HP, and it has always been 40% of missing HP. They just made it so he has 100% Magic Pen vs. Villains.
