So, how do placement matches work?

I just finished my placement matches for this season, after avoiding Ranked since Season 3. In Season 3 I went 5-5 in my placements and was placed in Silver V, which is where I stayed. This season, I duo queued with my girlfriend, who started playing this season, and we ended up going 9-1. She got placed in Gold III, while I was placed in...Silver V.

I don't mind it - I'm really proud of her for getting into Gold, and even Silver isn't too bad for me. But I'm just confused. We were going up against the same players in the same situation, and I haven't played Ranked in two seasons so I thought the soft-resets on MMR would've taken effect. Can someone explain to me how MMR, League ranking and placement matches work? I can't find any clear information anywhere which explains this.

It's really not about how many games you win. It takes into account your internal/hidden mmr, your opponents, your teammates, and most likely specific in game stats to place you somewhere.

I won 6-4 go to s3. My friend on two account was 7-3 got placed in s1, and 6-4 got placed in s5. It's ok though, it gets corrected as you play, all his account tend to become the same their and division.
