@Riot What is this Ranked System?

So I got placed in Bronze V today.

First game, Lucian ADC. I get an Alistar support who was unable to play for 20 minutes due to internet issues. Still walked into lane, but for the first 20 minutes I had to solo bot while he fixed his internet. Went 7/11/11. Loss

Second game, Syndra mid. Twenty minutes into the game and four deaths later, our Camille jg says "Oh, this is ranked? Oh shit, I would have played seriously had I known." Loss

Third game, Syndra mid. Everything went right. Our Vi jg ganked plenty and we managed to snowball our lead into a victory.

Fourth Game, Caitlyn ADC. Got carried by a Yasuo, victory.

Fifth Game, Syndra mid. I have absolutely no idea what went down bot, but our Vayne adc and Thresh supp got demolished bot, our Vayne began flaming on the entire team, and everyone ended up funneling mid. Defeat.\

Sixth Game, Volibear jg. This is the only game I accept as an actual loss, because even though every member of our team kept trying until the last minute, we were just outskilled by the enemy.

Seventh Game, Kassadin mid. Their Vel'Koz DCed at 10 minutes so, as you can expect, victory.

Eighth game, Ashe ADC. Again, got carried by a Yasuo to victory.

Ninth game, Syndra mid. We had a much better team comp and they had a Urgot top. While I admired his choice, it still landed us a victory.

Tenth game, Ashe ADC. I originally got mid, but the person who got bot said "I'm going mid, deal with it". I handed over mid because I wanted to win this game. The midlaner ganked twice, towerdived both times against a Zilean, then lost lane and proceeded to spent the final twenty minutes dancing in fountain because we wouldn't ff.

After all this, after people stealing my lane, having to solo bot, having the embodiment of Bronze Vaynes, I think, "Hey, maybe all of this will be worth it. Maybe I'll at least get Bronze 2 like last season".

No, I get Bronze V. Now, I understand that I'm not the best player in the game. I'm not saying I deserve Diamond or any ridiculous claim like that. But in 10 games, a total of 1 game was lost because of my own ineptitude in a case where all four of my teammates were actually trying. Yet a whopping 4 games were lost because a single person on my team was just plain not trying at the game.

How am I expected to handle the notion of "climbing" when my agency as a player is completely removed due to four people? When my attempts to never be that one person have just been met with the worst results a player of this game can receive?

I don't understand how your MMR system works. If it works based on winrate, then why did my 50% winrate land me nothing? Why did I just try my hardest at all ten of those games when it's obvious that the effort I put in amounted to nothing? Why is my MMR apparently so horrible that I could have ran it down mid every game and still achieved the same results?

If it works based on in-game stats like CS, KDA, wards, objectives, then why were those also not taken into account?

How can you expect me, as a player, to do well when you've just shown me that my performance has no affect on the results?

Ranked has always been a bit luck based as you cannot control your teammates, And if you didn't know, your MMR is based solely on win/loss and the MMR of who you are playing with/against. Personal performance has no effect whatsoever. You were Bronze last season, so its pretty normal you would be placed in Bronze 5.

You can choose to believe, like alot of people here, that the games you played meant nothing because you were placed into Bronze 5, but that isn't the case. Those games effect your MMR, so the more you win the higher your starting MMR will be. That makes it easier to climb, despite being Bronze 5. If you deserve anything higher than Bronze 5, you shouldn't have any problems climbing out of it.

The law of averages does work in your favor here. There's 5 enemy players, so odds are in general you should have an afk'er/disconnect more on their team.

The placement games also likely does take into account varies things. Last season I went 4/10 games and still placed in plat 3.

Honestly, you're probably just not playing well enough, and as Big Piece said, if you weren't a bronze player, and were something like gold 3 or higher, you can usually climb out of bronze in less than 20 games. Since the beginning of season 6, Riot have increased the elo gain rate. A challenger player can get there in around just 50 games, and blew through bronze to plat in just the first 15 games or so. You can always get elo, that's the easily part, your number one priority should just be becoming a better player.
