Locking out new champions or full reworks out of ranked for patch they are released.

It's a really toxic way of soft inting that plagues ranked. If Riot is truly looking for more ways to improve ranked they would not let people "learn" champions in ranked with 0 knowledge of matchups, win conditions, build paths, and mechanics. It's extremely frustrating to have on your team or to have to waste a ban on something every game, when there is something oppressive that you NEED to ban. It's also almost always a loss having someone learning a new champion in ranked on your team. It falsely loses you games you may not have lost otherwise if they player was forced to play a champion they have some knowledge on. It makes no sense to allow that in a competitive ladder.

TLDR: STOP allowing new champions to be played in ranked for the first 2 weeks to a month.

Nah, The difference between ranked and normals is huge. You cannot reciprocate the same learning environment you get in ranked, in a normals game. Maybe they can lock people out of playing a new champion in ranked UNLESS they have at-least 1 normal game under their belt with it, but a whole patch is excessive.

What the boards fails to understand is that you can't really learn much about the champ if you only take it in norms. Its an entirely different environment, the build you succeeded in norms with for 2 weeks straight likely will be shit on by a competent player.

On top of this, thats an extra 2 weeks of not knowing the true strengths of that champ, since riot bases their statistics off of ranked, not norms, so if there is a much needed hotfix or they can see its weak/strong, then that delays their ability to push out those changes.

Not to mention first timing a new champ isn't much different from first timing an old one. If they're losing lane, it should be treated like anybody else losing lane, simple as that. Pretty much how I got past all the kayles in ranked these past two weeks, if they int in lane, just ignore the lane, mute pings and carry by getting everyone else ahead.

For a patch? No. Here's my question, How would you tell if that champion is released weak or not? Norms? That's not the best environment to really show champion strengths and weaknesses. So they'll be unplayable for two whole weeks, Riot will have no idea on what worked and what didn't unless they take normal games full of randoms at face-value, so they might buff or nerf the wrong things. Instead they could do nothing, and then, let's say kayle since she's the most recent, would be released to ranked with no changes and people would still be upset because "Omg don't pick her she's so weak stop inting in my games!"

All together this is a terrible idea.

No, let me learn my champs in ranked in peace. Ranked is the only environment I learn. I tried to learn irelia in normals and I just picked up bad habits. Dont stifle someone's learning. Some of us only play ranked.

This is probably the 10,000th post asking this. One day they'll listen.

STRONGLY AGREE

Maybe just a week. Locking them out for 2 weeks to a month would make the champion’s hype dip way too low.

Technically champions are released a patch pior, its just the PBE. If people want to use it in ranked they will, even if they dont know if its any good, or any build info.

Even if you make it a month length before people can use it. the moment people can play it in ranked for the first time playing the champ, they will.

I'd say, make it so that you must play at least 2-3 games in another game mode before taking it to ranked, EVEN if its Zilean... (With the exception of Mundo, because he goes where he pleases) . You must take it to normals, The RGM, or even aram if you can manage.

Just stalling out the release is very redundant and solves nothing.

Maybe for like two or three days, like open it for Ranked once the patch is out and people have had a chance to play a couple normal games on it, but a whole patch? Nah, that's overkill.

yes yes yes ... oh my god...

Rankeds is the best place to learn. In normals people troll more and surrender way more. I tried playing ornn or nasus in normals and my team ff at 20 when i couldnt unleash my stacks or upgrade ornns items
