Vilemaw [Twisted Treeline]

What happens to Vilemaw?

The first time I played this mode years ago, I thought Vilemaw was amazing, and far above Baron in terms of design and visuals. Even now, while it's basically gone ignored, it still stands out. I play Treeline from time to time across various accounts when we have 3 people, because Flex is pointless without an actual team system (not what we have now). That being said, Vilemaw has violent animations and its own move with the web and dust visuals, making it very dynamic and exciting. In contrast, Baron feels very static and uninteresting beyond its spawn.

Considering Vilemaw to have a place on the Rift, would be an idea I'd like to throw out there. Whether it be to replace Baron, to spawn after an Elder Dragon, or to only appear at a random pit if Elder and Baron have both been taken and are on cooldown. It's just too good of an epic monster to waste, arguably the best. Alternatively, updating Baron to have visceral animations is an option.

You think riot will actually do something that doesn't make them money? They'll just release another skin for Ezreal next patch and release another champion with 5 dashes and 3 knockups.

Vilemaw actually has a move where he smashes the ground and makes a shockwave on the left, middle, or right side of his arena. He does it a few times and you need to actually move to dodge it. Can't even say how many times vilemaw has single handedly wiped out both teams when skirmishes happen on it.

Baron on the other hand... everyone just stands still auto attacking until it's dead. Enemy team comes? Try to steal it with smite, that's it. How exciting.

More like a new champ with 13 dashes and 40 knockups.

More like an Ezreal rework that gives him 11 dashes and 31 knockups.

I found Vilemaw more challenging than Baron because it would pull both teams toward it and I'd love if it came back in some form, but as it stands it probably won't. Wraiths were replaced with raptors when SR got its VU because they didn't match the new aesthetic, so it's unlikely Vilemaw will come to SR imo.

i awlays find Vilemaw more impressive and scary than baron even baron is more iconic. hopefully he will be either added in a new map or skin for SR.

RIOT spent a lot of time reworking Baron and even said they wanted Baron to feel truly terrifying...

but somehow... something, something, Dragon < Baron, something, something and we got this weak feeling Baron.

I hate to say it, but I think this one might actually be the balance team's fault and not the fault of the creative ideas team. Consider the question: Does almost every game have to have a Baron take in it? The correct answer is "No", but you can see that we have Baron takes in almost every game and it's not uncommon to have multiple Baron takes!

I don't watch as much pro-play these days, but last I checked it's not uncommon for announcers to say that some particular champions allow Baron to be taken quickly or that Mountains Drakes allow the Baron to be taken quickly or that Elder Dragon allows the Baron to be taken quickly. Is this interesting to watch? They even track the gold earned during the duration of the Baron buff because multiple Barons are often taken in games. Disgusting. Who can continue to watch this and maintain interest? Oh, another Baron? Ho Hum. The interesting thing is how much gold they got on that Baron take because Baron is so easy to take. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

maybe he will end up as a little legend for player who spend a lot of game on 3v3, maybe he will replace elder in tft, but chance are high they will never bring him to SR (like moonflair and all the other TT special stuff)

They could make it so Vilemaw and Baron rotate out like how the Elemental Dragons do. The dragons element spawns at random and each have a different effect on how the game can play out, why not do the same with Vilemaw and Baron? Differentiate their buffs a bit more and make their buffs unique to them. A rotating boss fight like that could make the game more dynamic and interesting too.

Completely agree and when alone it's much harder to kill than baron. Baron is pretty iconic now as it is so getting Vilemaw on the Rift would be something that would have to have a deeper look into.
