Autofill is bad, plain and simple. potential options inside.

I think the queue options would be much better without autofill. It basically says "Ok this is taking too long, so now we're going to put you where we WANT to put you, regardless if you know how to play the position or not" Which in itself is toxic because this is RIOT that is telling you that you are now going to play a certain position even if you don't want to or don't know how to. So what does this mean? It means they are demanding that all players now have to be proficient at all roles or they have to either risk playing a shitty game or dodging and potentially enter low priority queue AND losing LP for not being good enough to fill a role that they don't play as.

Riot, why not expand the queue up options and allow players to pick between two AND five positions in order of potentially desired roles, looking first for positions in their main role and then after certain time has passed add the second role into the positions being looked for, and if they added more potential roles, add the third into the search after more time has passed, and so on. If they choose fill then obviously just look for the first available slot in any position.

OR if you're just going to keep it as 2 roles and autofill, at LEAST tell the person what they're BEING QUEUED UP AS on the popup where you have to hit accept or decline to join the team, that way they are aware of what they're getting themselves into before they're forcibly slapped across the face for playing your game.

come on riot, what happened to CLARITY, the thing that you guys as a game company really liked to emphasize, because what we're getting is obscurity.

Here is why your solution is not going to work:

The problem right now is that there are not enough people specifically playing support.

Your solution amounts to: "is one of the roles you agree to play support? Great! we need a lot of supports! we will place you as only support!". To which players will respond to - just as they had responded when it because obvious that secondary support = always support - by not having support as one of the chosen roles.

Basically what you are saying is this: We need more supports. Riot should make some solution such that other people who are not me to play more support. but everybody is like you (aside from the support players who are not enough). so people who are not you to play support , will not happen. therefore you specifically must be made to pick up and play support.

how does riot convince you to play support?

I posted this in the other autofill thread: Just give bonus IP and/or hextech goodies for people who choose the "fill" role, and the problem will mostly take care of itself. This is the logical solution.

Autofill is a necessary evil. Everyone wants to be that guy that blows up the whole other team while securing baron and blowing up the nexus but thats not reality. Reality is there is always one player that has to babysit. Its the meta. Its not going to change. Personally i like support and actually pretty much main the role. The problem with people not wanting to play support is the same issue we have always had with the role. Your impact on the game isnt flashy. Nobody out there will comment on how nice having wards placed is or how great your peeling or distracting the other team. All they see is Lucian getting two kills in bot lane after you get a Blitz grab or Leona engage. Then what do you see? "GJ Lucian!"

That is the underlying problem with support as a whole. That and being stuck with a potato ADC that thinks they are gods gift to the gaming community and calling you bad for not playing how they want and DEMANDING that you pull Leona on Blitz. So you finally cave and do it only for her to jump on said ADC and having the enemy collapse on them. Then they blame you for not peeling when all of your spells are on cooldown from the engage they demanded you do. Dont be that guy.

In all fairness though if the contribution of the support was more rewarded it wouldnt feel like being a babysitter as much. Maybe if the last hit on a champ wasnt all that mattered and the gold were just distributed based on factors of the kill instead of the Janna that stole a hit with an auto it would feel better. If the display of a kill was BLITZ MALPH LEE KILLED ASHE instead of LEE KILLED ASHE also Malph and Blitz were kinda there it would be better. Supports cant shine generally in the way other classes can. It feels less fun for many people. Thats the problem. Its not the autofill system but that is the telling sign that there is just an issue with the role in itself.

Autofill isnt going away and cant go away. If it does you better be prepared to enjoy some half hour or longer queue times. If you want to fix the symptom you fix the problem and that is why dont people find support fun.
