So what is the point of requiring 20 champs for Draft normals? Or even for ranked?

Considering we have 5 roles, that's 4 champs per role. Do we really need a player to have this many champs? Assuming the opposing team bans 5 of their champs, that would leave 15... I think the requirement is outdated and unnecessary. Most players focus one or two champs to climb. Let's say we need a couple champs for autofill cases. So 5 possible roles and 10 potential champs. Let's also assume the opposing team bans 5 champs that happen to all be in your champ pool. So add a factor of safety for that. 15 champs seems more reasonable. 20 champs to play even normals seems entirely unnecessary.

Because 10 are banned and 9 others are picked....so in the extremely rare case that your other 19 are banned/picked before you, you still have 1.

Along with what Anastaecia said, it's also in the case of if you get autofilled. If someone had 15 champions that were all in certain roles except for that one role, then things could get messy. It's just a safeguard so that people actually have champions available to them and have a backup with the ban and pick system.

Team bans 5 of your champs (IK that would include you as well but I own master yi and have no problem banning him) Enemy team bans 5 of your champs Your team picks 4 of your champs their team picks 5 of your champs You only have 1 pick left. Any less than that and you'll end up with a scenario where you physically cannot pick a champ. That's why. IK it would be extremely rare, but possible nonetheless
