What are the nidalee jump mechanics?

So I'm getting confused as I'm trying to learn nidalee. Sometimes, the range indicator and the circle comes up after I've hunted a target. But if I just press w in there, sometimes she just basics jumps even though the line has already come up. It seems to work a lot more often if I mouse over my hunted target as I'm chasing them. If I do mouse over them, sometimes before the dotted line comes up and they're outside my pounce circle, nidalee will do the far jump.

Anyone know why this is the case and explain it to me? Thanks.

Bump. Been this way for a while for me (unreliable pounce-commits). Directly after her major overhaul it was so reliable, I'd learned to know how long to wait before pressing w, without even having to hear the sound/see the indicator. Some point after the big Summoner's Rift update, it became incredibly screwy.. Here I thought I was the only one confused.
