Basically, I don't believe AP malphite should be more relevant than tank malphite. As it stands, if we nerf AP malphite, I believe the champ would be nearly unplayable. but if we buff tank malphite, it doesn't really change the issue. Here's my suggested changes.

Passive His passive ability to me rewards his more poke/passive playstyle which in my mind doesn't really fit the role of a tank. This new passive will reward him for playing closer to immediate danger, yet still retaining very clear counter-play.

Granite Shield - When malphite Hits enemy champions or large monsters with his abilities, shards of granite falls to a nearby location, lasting for up to 6 seconds. Malphite can pick up a shard to gain 5% max health as a shield, stacking up to 3 times. Enemies can move over shards to destroy them.

Seismic Shard This ability is frustratingly useless when behind, and overwhelming for the enemy while ahead. Combining its point and click accuracy with an almost guaranteed arcane comet, as well as low base dmg/high mana cost with no tank scaling, makes this ability unhealthy, un-interesting and out-dated.

  • RNG - 750+250 / RAD - 180 / SPD 1700 Malphite Rips a shard of granite from the ground (0.5s cast time) and hurls it to target location and bounces once, exploding upon contacting an enemy, the terrain or reaching the end of its trajectory dealing 70 / 120 / 170 / 220 / 270 (+10% bonus health)+(30%AP) Magic damage and stunning the target for up to 1.5 seconds based on distance traveled. Stacks of {granite shield} will also be consumed to increase this abilities damage by 10% per stack consumed. (This allows for some serious reward/counterplay based on if the ability lands Properly or not and is) Thunderclap I actually really like this ability however I would adjust it to the new passive.

In addition to its current effects and ratios, While active, each attack sends a shard of granite to nearby location. attacks consume 1 stack of granite shield to deal an addition 10/20/30 (+10% armor)

Ground Slam - Same. I really don't see many issues with this ability

I really would like to overhaul his ultimate ability to something more enjoyable to use and to play against however at the same time, I don't want to ruin what makes the champion malphite. I'm really not sure how to change his engage tool without stripping him of this iconic characteristic.

Unstoppable Force - AP ratio lowered from 100% to 60%. (perhaps to compensate, picking up shards of granite permanently grant malphite 1 armor??)
