placements

i thought placements were supposed to place me based on my last seasons rank? I won my placements with a 50% win rate, 5 win 5 loss, and was placed Iron I. im just confused because I ended last season in Silver and a 50% win rate is normal soo. I feel like I wasn't placed this low last year. Did they change the placement system?
