League of Legends Matchmaking

League of Legends is exclusively matchmaking me with gold players in ranked, while i'm a bronze 1 player who has little to no experience in ranked. How is this fair that i get placed against people far above my own skill level and get force fed loses over and over, and never play against my own rank? I can't keep hold of any ladder points because i'm never matched up against players of equal skill. The point of this post is so that hopefully someone can explain how the matchmaking system works and why i can't play with players on my skill level and maybe gain some ladder points. I can see the leader board and see that there are plenty of players at my rank of bronze one but i do not ever play against them. Ironically i get people of my skill level and sometimes lower in my games on MY team but never on the enemy team. I'm not trying to rant about the game or the players but i genuinely want to know how the matchmaking works thank you.
