WANTED: Viable Explaination (Gameplay: Katarina's Death Lotus Nerf)

This is not a post to whine about what is a gameplay nerf that Katarina sustained several patches ago, but I would like to hear a VIABLE explanation as to why this nerf was implemented. Originally Death Lotus could hit up to 5 enemy targets within range, now it only targets 3. What was the reasoning behind the nerf?

The reason I ask is that every other Champion that has a Area of Effect spell affects every one within range, and if you are not smart enough to get out of it, then you take as much damage as can be dished out for the duration of the effect, but for some reason Katarina's AoE Spell "Death Lotus" is limited to only 3 targets within range during the 3 seconds of duration.

So why the nerf? Garen and Wukong can spin out of control hitting everything in sight and can do so while moving as you attempt to flee, but Kat only gets to hit 3 of the in range opponents and if she moves the spell is interrupted. Additionally I'd like to know how those 3 are chosen?

And for the humor of it...why can't Graves have a cigar? Trollalala

Respectfully, XanNuri Katarina

It's pretty bad, considering how easy she is to shut down during her ult.

Didn't Death Lotus always have a max of 3 targets?

Got changed back in Season 1 lol. I'd assume it's only 3 targets because of the amount of damage it does and how it applies grievous wounds.

Death Lotus (Ultimate) Katarina goes into a state of extreme focus, throwing daggers with unrivaled speed at one enemy champion for each level of the ability.

^The original version of Death Lotus. It only hit one target per rank.

Unless it was never in the patch notes Death Lotus has never hit more than 3 targets. I can never remember it doing so.

V1.0.0.103:

Death Lotus Now fires blades at three targets at all levels.

This is when Death Lotus began hitting 3 targets, looks like season 1. I was not here so I am unsure.

Edit: Just looked you up, I do not think Kat is very good in 3s but if you are going to play her there I would suggest building these items and probably in this order.

item 3090 item 3020 item 3170 item 3135 Then pick from these : item 3116 item 3146 item 3285 item 3001

Kat is a glass cannon and the twisted tree line is inhabited by bruisers and champs like lissandra. You will need to get these more defensive minded items earlier I think.

I think you should avoid the cdr boots in 3s completely and play a few hundred Kat games before you try running cdr on sr.

Edit number 2:

Katarina is not a champion, she is an addiction. A lot of people hate her so be prepared to mistreated by people in your games. Learn how to abuse her passive, it is her one defining strength. Death Lotus should be saved for when the other teams cc is down, it is your responsibility to know the cooldowns of the enemy teams cc. During the loading screen look up those champions wikis and find the cc and its cooldown at max rank, play around that cooldown at all time. Generally speaking if you can get half of your ultimate off it is worth using.

Do your homework, memorize Kats base damage and scaling with each spell at each rank. Knowing exactly how much damage you have before you enter a fight is paramount in learning how to play kat well. Until you do this you will never know for sure if you can get a reset or not. Without a reset Kat is as good as dead. Know how much magic resist your enemy has and factor this into your math for how much damage you will do to them. You can determine this by left clicking them and looking at the box that will appear in the top left hand of your screen.

Best of luck:
