Every time I walk over to ward there's somebody already there to kill me
If I do manage to get a ward down they just walk around the tower and dive and kill us anyways
Or they teleport in
Or I get jumped on from literally 2k+ range away with thresh + hypermobile carry jungler with CC

Sounds like you're going to ward like a dummy. There's always a way to ward a bush without being seen by placing on impassible terrain to shove the ward over
Hey, keep track of where the enemy jungler is. 70% of the time they will want to first blood your toplaner, so check when the jungler is top. Then add like 1 minute when he disappears, and if he doesn't stop by the midlane within 10 sec then put a ward. Most likely he's clearing camps and making his way down to bot. Never put wards if most of the enemy team is missing. Deep ward when you know all 5 enemies positioning.
Ward it over the wall on the way to lane through the jungle. Alternavely, bring Zyra and drop a seed instead.
