He barely outranges melee, while half the range of most actual ranged champs. Ultimately wouldn't really matter, but he would greatly benefit from being able to pick up 
for starter while taking 
lategame. Just seems so arbitrary to screw him out of items that would synergize with him as well as other melee supporters.
Rakan has the second highest Base AD (70) in the game (tied with Aatrox (70), behind Kalista (71)).
I think it is so he cannot be built bruiser, because he would scale very well with and 
. I know he has no ability scaling with AD, but neither does Shen.
I have played a lot of Rakan and like to play Top- Lane Tank and he is very good on 3v3 map as a Tank or AP- Tank Hybrid, but I think he would be too OP with a "melee" attack, both as a Bruiser and Support.
Yeah, I know. While Rakan doesn’t need the particular changes, it sucks because the Brace line’s quest passive synergies incredibly with his passive and he always does build as a tanky enchanter.
I don’t know why they didnt give Rakan a passive to proc Brace more easily like Thresh has but eh, Rakan isn’t doing terrible.
I think they wanted to push rakan more towards a nimble AP flavoured support who just doesn't get hit in the first place, rather than a somewhat tanky version, so now those who do opt for the relic version do need to properly last hit as a bit of a trade off.
Maybe they don't want him using the hydras and developing some sort of diving bruiser build as an alternative explanation.
