Seriously - Is Blitzcrank's ulti passive meant to be a help, or a hindrance?
Don't get me wrong, Blitz's Static Field passive is cool and on theme. And at first glance it seems like free damage. But really, for what Blitz does I almost wish it didn't exist. Let's look at the pros and cons.
"Passive: Lightning arcs off of Blitzcrank to hit a random nearby enemy for 100/200/300 (+20% Ability Power) magic damage every 2.5 seconds."
PROS:
- Deals damage to nearby enemies every 2.5s
- Helps you clear waves
CONS:
- Gives away your position in a brush / fog of war
- Forcibly aggroes monster camps, including dragon / baron
- Messes with your laner's cs if you're too close
- Makes last hitting difficult if there are allied minions nearby. Slow AA animation makes this worse.
- Forcibly pushes the wave in a solo lane
Blitzcrank shines when ambushing people. But when static field zaps the scuttle crab, for example, the ruse is up. He can't clear wards inside dragon / baron pit without taking damage, he can't stand near his adc during laning. The damage is also unreliable; it can strike minions / tanks during teamfights, and if you pop your ulti at the start it's already on CD.
Finally, if you build AP to capitalize on the damage, you are probably in a solo lane, where it messes with last hitting and pushes the wave.
What do you guys (or Riot design team members) think?
