Trying to pick a Champion

Hello League Community

This is for an account on a different server, but seeing how I cannot access the boards yet on there I'm asking this here. I also don't know if this is necessarily the correct board to be posting this, but it's about champions so I figured Gameplay was the best bet. I am trying to decide between 2 champions that I have a particular interest in, which also cost the same amount of IP. Being that both champions are pretty high priced (in my opinion, because I'm a cheapo) it will be a while before I get the other. As it stands now I currently own Annie and Ashe on mentioned account. Noting that Annie is a Mage and I do well mid, and Ashe is a marksman where I typically try to play her as an ADC (somewhat obviously I play her bot); I am wanting to choose the champion that provides me the most varied way of playing (i.e. I don't want the one that is exactly like Ashe in terms of how you play, same with Annie).

Now as for the Champions I am having trouble choosing over; they are Ezreal Ezreal and Ahri Ahri which yes quite obviously have similarities to the champions I own now. It is to my understanding Ahri is a Mage / Assassin and Ezreal is an ADC/Mage, I am leaning more to Ahri in that she has pretty good movement but I like Ezreal's Global attack. They are both Ranged champs which is nice. So your thoughts and advice?- I am all ears.

Ezreal is a very viable APC for mid lane. Albeit it is more difficult to build him pure AP. The burst damage he deals is insane, and his ult can take down champs easily.

Ahri is also a very bursty champ, who can ADC if I am correct, although her preferred role is APC mid lane. Very strong, and if you time it right and get your champion to commit, your Charms are too much to resist.

Considering that you want a champion that will have more than one way to play, I would go with Ez. His ult will also teach you map awareness, as post-6 you should ALWAYS look for a sniping opportunity. But do not worry, you really can't go wrong wither way!

Good point, I am quite weak with map awareness- I am usually focused particularly on my lane solely. Your points are very valid, but I will wait to see what more people will say about this before I decide. And I don't believe I saw these 2 champions advertised to have changes done to them this season, am I correct? Like how Riot has reworked Graves & Caitlyn.

ADC Ahri is for normals, but never take that into ranked.

Both of them are safe in mid lane, and ez can double up as a marksman. Ez's main weakness in mid lane is the lack of waveclear. he will constantly be pushed under tower, and he doesn't have much cc to help when his jungle ganks. It still can be done, and AP ez is strongest at late game. Ahri has a really safe early with a ton of mobility options. She has good wave clear, good burst damage, and good mobility. She doesn't have much aoe, and her teamfight is hoping around, trying to kill an adc.

Both champs are good, but pick the one that matches your play style. Want super burst and a phenomenal teamfight? Ez. Super mobility and safer laning, Ahri.

Why not ranked, I've seen her used in Worlds? I have also seen her utilized in team fights, granted yes it was hopping around, but she still got kills and helped out her team effectively. Albeit this Ahri quite obviously knew how to time and land her hits.

I'm no arguing to necessarily prove you wrong and me right, but I feel if I ask these questions and get answers they will help me out. SO don't take my argument the wrong way please.

Attack Damage Carry (ADC) Ahri does not work in ranked. She is meant for AP, not adc.

Yes, I am not asking for another ADC though, I want champs that are going to be different from Annie and Ashe (ADC), but you are saying Ahri is an amazing AP, and from what I have read from you and VictoryDance96; you guys are explaining that Ez can go as APC or ADC where as you suggest Ahri is preferably only AP. Do I have this correct?

Oh you must have misunderstood me at first haha. Victory Dance said Ahri could adc, I told him she could not.

Ezreal is primarily an adc, but he can see play as a mage. That variant is very burst oriented, but lacks waveclear and will often times be punished for it. He does have the plus of being able to snipe objectives like Dragon and Baron though.

And yes, you have that right. Ez can go APC or ADC, but Ahri is pretty much pigeonholed into APC. She is lethally efficient at APC though, and her roaming is amazing.

Oh I see. In that case, would it be safe to judge Ahri as similar to Annie because I typically build on her AP & mana, and evidently Ez is like Ashe but he can mage. I would like to try out roaming though..

I have played Ez on the rotation a few weeks past, hopefully Ahri will come in the next rotation and I can try her out too. I haven't exactly decided which lane or role I prefer most so that would make this more difficult.

Ez isn't that similar to Ashe, his main damage comes from Q, hers from autos. Ezreal is a mage adc, as his gameplay is an AD mage. Ahri is an AP mage, who roams and has great mobility. Ahri is a lot of fun to play, but tedious to play vs.

hmm, I think I will be getting Ez, at least as of right now- I am no where near the amount on m other account. But super excited, cannot wait to finally have both champs. Thank you for your information.

Neither Ahri or Ezreal are exactly 'flexible picks'--they are both very niche champions with clearly-defined strengths and weaknesses, and the more you deviate from their optimal playstyle the worse you'll likely do.

If you want a flexible champ to add to your roster, I'd recommend Varus or Quinn. Both are perfectly viable ADCs, and equally as good when sent to either of the solo-lanes (generally as a counterpick against Champs you'd be guaranteed to lane well against). Both play pretty diferently--Varus is all about long-range nukes while Quinn more-tuned toward 1v1's--so it's probably for the best to read a guide or two for each and see which you like more.

I appreciate your insight, however I still more so lean towards Ahri or Ezreal- perhaps, as it seems to be the case with myself, I am looking for a champion that fits my playstyle instead of the amount of varying roles. Heck, I might not even know which lane/role I prefer- but I will definitely look into those champions afterwards, I had taken an interest in Varus, but Ez and Ahri are still on the top of my list when it comes to me.

Whatever works! On the most basic level, the champions you'll do best with are the ones you invest time in and stay engaged with the most--neither Ezreal or Ahri are weak Champs by any means so enjoy
