Losing lane to a hard counter or high burst champ

So, I was playing a game just now, I was against a hard counter of mine that also had 1-2 second burst. Now, my build wasn't meta, neither was my champ, but both are normally good, and generally shut down high burst. Well, I ended up losing lane, then started getting flamed in chat by my enemy laner about how I'm trolling because I'm not playing anything meta. So apparently you're not allowed to play League of Legends unless you are playing meta champions, even in a NORMAL game.

I know you're trying to be facetious or something, but really? If you're going to come here and vent then just vent, no need to say something that is obviously wrong on top of it.

Flamers and meta whores don't really count, after all, when it comes to judging League as a whole.

well, it depends how unviable the pick/build was. If it's unviable and wasn't helpful to the team, then you are ruining the game for all 4 of your teammates for your own personal enjoyment (which is an asshole move). If that was the case, you should only be doing that stuff with a premade lobby where everyone involved is ok with it.

Now assuming you weren't completely out of meta (like ap renek support or some stupid shiz like that) and it at least fit your team comp then fine. You lost lane which was unfortunate but 1 game doesn't mean whatever you were doing isn't viable. Ignore the ragers and learn from that lane

I'm curious what it was that you played, and in which lane?

Lol, don't worry about it, people always try to pin the blame on 1 person when they lose. At the end of the day it's a game, and the entire point of a game is to have fun, and if you have fun by trying new things then who cares who flames :P But at the same time, don't play things that just don't work for the sake of doing it (like AP Graves, or AD Sona, etc) but I don't know what champ you used and what you built so odds are that doesn't applied to you

This happens to me sometimes so I felt I should say something :)

As long as it doesn't violate the AP Garen Rule, you're fine. Report them, they'll get a nice ban, and you'll come out ahead.

Now, if you violate the AP Garen Rule, you're intentionally feeding and will be reported and banned. All the examples everyone named fall under that (the AD Sona, the AP Renekton, the AP Graves, etc.)

Taking Leona top lane is not the same thing as AP Garen. You know it, I know it, and the Riot mods know it.
