Illaoi Builds

So the only topics I see about Illaoi lately is people begging for skins and while I am in that boat I was curious about some other topics concerning her. Right now I am curious as to what other Illaoi players are building in today's meta. I play her in at least 90% of my games because I absolutely love her and there is nothing funnier to me than killing random champions while they are running from my test of spirit.

So for me I always start Corrupting Potion. It gives me enough mana to stay in lane long enough to build my first component piece normally. I see some other Illaoi's building doran blade and that doesn't make sense to me because your q should be healing you plenty and I don't find my self aa very often.

First complete item is most often going to be a Black Cleaver. The only time this isn't the case is when I dip into MR against teemo or swain. Or against health steal champs like fiora or renekton where I dip into a bramble vest before cleaver.

From there the build stays fairly consistent with only the order of items changing. I'll get a Death's Dance, Steraks, Merc Treads, Thornmail, and Spirit Visage.

The 2 tank items obviously depend on the opposing team comp. I might sub them out for a tri-force if I am very ahead and just destroy towers.

So I was just curious what you guys are currently building on her and why that might differ from what I do.

item 3071 item 3812 item 3053 item 3065 item 3143 item 3047 Can't argue with Illaoi's bread and butter build.

I generally take Tabi over Mercs because ADCs are a pain in the ass. Mercs are still good into comps with multiple stuns or heavy magic damage.

With preseason coming up, I'm looking into taking Illaoi with runes like these: http://na.leagueoflegends.com/en/featured/preseason-update/8000-8021?build=02212238

Chose Precision keystone over Resolve because Fleet Footwork will give some mobility in fights, and the energized attack increases the mana sustian from Presence of Mind, which might be an alternative to starting Corrupting Pot. Legend: Tenacity should be obvious. Last Stand and Second Wind + Sterak's means she's going to be hella hard to kill at low health. Iron Skin/Mirror Shell is bonus resistances whenever you touch someone with your tentacles.

A more standard Resolve-primary page would look like this: http://na.leagueoflegends.com/en/featured/preseason-update/8400-8437?build=30002048

This would exemplify the classic Illaoi gameplay we know and love. More toughness and tenacity for the immobile tentacle queen.

The Core-Items sound about right. I prefer starting Doran's Shield or maybe even Cloth armor + Pots if i face an AD-opponent which i have trouble with (Rene, Darius come to mind).

One thing I've been going midlane that has worked out quite well is boots rush into triforce into dd. Typically I'll get the boots just to survive any poke the enemy has in store (as unless it's ridiculous that's the only resists I'll ever need early). While I've found cleaver to be somewhat nice, the amount of versatility you get off triforce often makes it too hard to pass up as you not only take down turrets way faster (especially with sheen-w procs) but will rarely ever not destroy an enemy's vessel unless they're something stupid like 300 armor malph. Everything else has seemed to be personal preference, although I'll often build full lifesteal the less seriously I take the enemy.
