New AP Item Changes for the "Better"?
These items, as a main mage/support person this is upsetting. First they took a massive nerf to mana regen in general and made mage lives a living hell in lane, doran's ring is literally useless compared to some other items. We have nothing good to start with.
NOW! Now Riot is taking away mana regen because it's a "rely on a steady drip of attrition." (10 para, line 2, Xypherous) The one major problem I have with this is early game it is CRUCIAL that mana regen is built on mages, a mana crystal of 5 won't help if we have no AP to back it up. Oh yes we can "be comfortable burning through tons of mana on powerful spells" (11 para, line 3, Xypherous), but where is this magical "power" coming from if we have to build straight mana before being useful?
You have already ripped mages a new one, but now you just made it worse. Not to mention taking away SPELL VAMP which is the ONLY lifesteal option that mages had, but AD characters get to keep leeching life off of everything they can land their hands on, but a big middle finger to
and many others that enjoyed it.
Some of these ideas you have are great ideas, but they are severely lacking when it comes to actually comparing them to AD items. Take
and
for example. They are both the base building items for any champion in League, but the difference here is pricing AND availability. you may think "It's only a little less than a 100g difference", but in reality that means a lot early game. With these new "changes" you are bringing is making mages crazy late game useful while AD champions get to shred early game and continue to build up insanely through the game.
Now I don't want to be one of those "whiners" who are counterproductive and not tell you EXACTLY what I have problems with and why I do. Prepare to read for a lot longer my friends.
Let's start with the very top of the list in new changes the new catalyst. Actually I like this and think it's a good idea, but I do not like the limit it has. Rather than having a flat rate of 25 for health and mana regen, how about it be scaling with depending on levels, or give it a stacking type of system. This would keep it balanced throughout the entirety of the game itself and giving mages who worked well with spellvamp (such as the champions I showed before hand), this would make it more fair to mages who struggle in fights with lifesteal items.
Now moving on to the new tear of the goddess! While in theory this passive sounds nice, but regaining 25% of flat mana after consumption is annoying. Yes we get 25% mana back, but with the mana regen destruction (it is what I am calling it, it is not a nerf, but a destruction of mages in general) it will cause frustration as mages stare at the mana they have, but cannot use since it is flat mana given back from using a skill, while regen continues to bring up the mana bar at a "trickling pace", but in a fight this could be crucial. This mana regen could literally mean life or death for a mage, one mana makes the difference. Also, regen over time makes things easier to measure out what skills you can combo and still be able to wait just a few moments before having your mana back to a nice comfortable place of usage. With flat mana, it would be like staring at paint drying as it ticks up slowly from the base regen everyone gets. To me there is no way to fix this, but to keep the items as they are currently.
I will speak of the chalice briefly, since if I go into detail it will simply be a lot of repetition. One thing that has always bothered me is that supports were expected to build this, but in reality it was most mid laners who built this for a small bit of MR. The MR bot lot in a game as a support is literally like finding a wet rag when you need to wipe up a liquid spill. The mage supports with be doing minimal to no damage early game, but the ADC does! Why not create a more respectable item for supports that are fairly squishy or mana reliant that is based on armor rather than MR?
Lost chapter? This new item is literally half of what catalyst used to be, it is stupid. I hate it. Also you want supports to build this? Are you joking? The job of the support is to protect and our ADCs and do light poking, this new item could literally ruin CS phases for ADCs and also could be potential the small difference between your ADC getting an assist rather than a kill. Also, mana regen after level ups... As a support, I need mana constantly. I cannot wait as Soraka for mana to be able to keep "poke" up AND heal my ADC at the same time. Leveling is a slow process in the beginning of the game for bot laners. This would be horrid to build in retrospect. This is the item you want us to build into items? Screw that.
Grail and Morellonomicon are literally just repeats of earlier points and this post is going to be long and repeating myself isn't going to go anywhere. One beef I have with Grail is that it is for (currently) shielding supports only. In theory this is nice, but literally you just created another Ardent Censer. Good job.
I already stated early on in this post that removing spellvamp literally ruins certain characters as a whole. Thanks for that. Mages were useless for the past season and this new season is just going to worse. Why don't you simply remove mages in general? AD assassins received a buff in game with one stupid item that literally makes me cringe knowing it exists and is the main reason I ban Zed EVERY SINGLE GAME I HAVE A BAN AVAILABLE TO ME. (
Big middle finger to this item. Literally screw that item and its existence.)
Now for the last bit you won't be grilled so hard. Some of these changes I am actually EXCITED for. MORE COOLDOWN REDUCTION ITEMS!!! Also THANK YOU for raising the timer on the active status for Zhonya's.
Speaking about the MR situation with things, not sure how to feel about this. I feel like the balance between taking away some MR, but also I feel like Banshee's should not be negated of health. If anything only remove 50 or 100, not 200. That is a bit much to me. Spirit Visage gets me a little to excited to see it doing more, but also a bit sad you cut down on it's MR so hard. I want to see the balance between the numbers first of how it works in game.
The new items I have no words for because I have been wanting new mage items and different things to try, but I don't know how to feel about them yet. Hextech is cool, I was actually surprised it took this long to bring in more hextech items. Gold cost reduction on some of these items is really nice since I felt like it was easier for AD champions to build than it was for mages. (This is still somewhat true, but also mages are getting screwed over a bit.)
Now I know this is currently only going to be in PBE and I am kind of angry that Xypherous is only responding to the posts in PBE forums. I would like to actually like him to read other people outside of PBEs opinions. I know Riot works hard for us players, but I feel like my voice goes unheard of most of the time. I want to seem important just like other "popular" LoL players on forums and such. I only post when I feel like it would be helpful to Riot, but I've gone ignored many times.
Thank you kindly for reading this, if you made it to the bottom. I don't like using image icons much since they break the posts a lot and just make them ugly. Please refrain from downvoting this without actually reading it or just thinking I am being "whiny" when as a matter of fact I took a long time to come up with ideas, solutions, and possible saving graces for mages. I have been with League for a long time now, though others have been here longer, I know many who leave and continue to leave as the game seems to progress towards an unfair gameplay and they feel unheard. I have a strange passion and love for this game and would like to see it's potential do great, but the community is still toxic and some champions are way out of balance.
