Can support ranked players not lose so much LP

Fabzz··2 votes·1,669 views

i like to think that supports can carry games, i.e thresh hook on to adc or apc, etc. but i don't understand how i can lose so much LP for one loss and expect to climb the ranks when i get 13 Lp for a win and -18 Lp for loss. like i main support cause no one ever want to play support in my game out of 10 games 2 games someone besides me calls for support. so i play it but i'm frustrated that i main this role, and i go on these massive losing streak yet my stats are good, i ward a lot, i peel for squishes, but how is it fair that under two mins my mid and top die and never recover. and they blame the jungler or mid doesn't call mia and blames bot for feeding their lane opponent. It gets me depressed that i try so hard to support my adc yet it means nothing if the other lanes lose bad. i cant gank mid or top at lvl 2 trust me if i could go top and kill that low hp top lanner for u i would. but i can't. idk i feel like i main a role that means nothing if other lanes lose that isnt bot. and mmr is suffering for it, its just not fair, im always last to join chat cause my cpu is slow so i can never call anything and im not gonna be an asshole and take a role that someone else called.

TLDR: play and main support , cant gank top or mid at 2 mins, lose game. only get 13 Lp for win but -18 Lp for loss

i just feel its unfair and riot doesn't care. but i'm just one person so whatever.

Your LP gains/losses aren't out of whack because you main support.

They are out of whack because you're about to get demoted from plat to gold.

It's the same for other roles besides maybe the jungler. You can't control what your teammates do. That's why ranked team games that attempt to quantify your skill level based on the performance of your team, rather than your personal performace, seem like a sloooow and agonizing climb.

At least in starcraft I knew that if I lost, I deserved it and if I won, I deserved it. In league, I feel like I can roll the dice and maybe tilt the table a little in one direction thinking it will make a difference.

The difference with most supports, though, is that you can't punish an enemy you find out of position by yourself (more likely you just got yourself killed). You have little to no effect on top lane if your ADC needs you. If you mid or jungle you have a lot more leeway to help any lane that needs it, and top too if they have any TP. You're pretty much glued to your ADC, or the bottom section of the map if the enemy bot lane is absent.

If your team sucks, it's impossible to carry them out as support alone, while every other role can very often do exactly that. Great support can make a mediocre team good, but can't make a shitty team mediocre.

Actually, I'm gonna have to disagree with some of that. A support can sometimes can punish the enemy if they're out of position. Like if you're Leona or Thresh. If you're Leona, dive them hard and stun them and hope that your team isn't retarded, and that they follow up on your engagement. If you're Thresh and you seem an enemy out of position, then that's probably your signal to grab them and flay them to your team. If you're Nami and see someone out of position. Bubble them, and your team should be able to poke them a lot for free before bubble wears or kill them. If your team has a chance to win a 5v5 team fight, then a support can very well change the tide of the battle if their favor if they know exactly which enemies to target first, and who to protect your allies from. If you're Leona, sometimes you go and stay on the most fed enemy for your team to kill them. Sometimes, after you engage as Leona and a fight breaks out, you then go back to your ADC or most fed ally to keep the enemy tank from destroying your back line and protect them. So a support can affect a team fight if you know who to target and who to protect all costs. Though, that's if your team at least has a slight chance of winning a team fight. If your team is really far behind, then the only way to catch up to have a chance to win a team fight, is split push and try to objectives like turrets/dragon/baron and stuff, and/or having the match last like 40-50mins where both sides are near from full build just from it being a long match, and then the support can affect the team.

Sometimes, if your team is really behind and they have a bad team comp, then there's just nothing you can do. For example of a good one. Fiora/Fiddlesticks/Katarina/Leona/Jinx. You have Fiddles and Leona for the super hard AoE CC and Fiora/Katarina for all the AoE massive damage output. Then there's Jinx. Amumu/Leona combo is also really good for team fights, as is Veigar/Leona combos.

Ya, there's no doubting support can pull off perfect engage situations (as Nami main, Tide + double/triple bubble combo are common) but it doesn't matter if you lock down all 5 of them for 4 seconds straight, if your team won't follow or are simply too weak because they fed their lane, it doesn't matter.

But this is from a Silver perspective. I'm stuck here still because the carries here often don't recognize "Hey he hit a bubble, I should poke them as hard as I can while I'm safe".

^Yep. Silver is a pain to climb out of. I was Silver 2. Recently 3 now. That's also why I said at the beginning "and hope that your team isn't retarded, and that they follow up on your engagement". Instead of wondering "If I catch this person out of place, will my team actually follow up" and just go hard on it anyways and they eventually do. Just need smarter teammates so you can actually catch someone out of place.

Also. Your LP gain/loss. I highly doubt that's "because" you main support. I've done support a lot in ranked, but I never have that kind of LP win/loss. I lose like 13 and gain like 27. I do almost every role. I've lost 13-18LP (maybe even 19), and I've gained 17-28LP (maybe even 16). It's completely random at times. I once heard somewhere if you get around 25 or something, then you belong in a higher rank than what you're in, but if you get like 13 and lose 18, then your rank might be your skill level, which would be Platinum V. Platinum rank is actually good though. I'm about halfway to Gold, still working on improving to be Gold. You're Platinum. That's kind of high. Do you think your skill level is actually Diamond level?? There's a big difference between Diamond and Platinum, and I don't think it's easy to be Diamond. Is there something that Diamonds do that you don't do?? Maybe there's something for you to improve on to rank higher. Maybe other game mechanics to learn. For example, attack move click is high elo game mechanic for ADCs, or for anyone who mains ADC for a long time that eventually figure it out.

Supports are every bit as important as every other role, perhaps more-so than top.

Deal with it and git gud

only get 13 Lp for win but -18 Lp for loss

Side note, this means that your MMR is lower than your Elo, so the system is trying to drop you. It's not being unfair to you before you think that, it's because you've lost enough consecutively recently that you're playing against people below your division, so they aren't worth as much for a win and cost more for a loss because you shouldn't lose to them.

It's actually giving you a chance to prove that you should be where you are instead of just dropping you immediately. Riot's little double MMR/Elo system kind of places artificial roadblocks on dropping and climbing, which is usually annoying, but in this particular instance it's actually being nice to you.

nice got demoted today cause 3 games in a row i have one teammate that either feed and left. or disconnected and never came back. and yet i get demoted and my "MMR" drops cause its my fault my teammate fed and left and or disconnected and never came back.

Sucks, but disconnects happen.

In a match where everyone's actually there, which is 99% of them, you have a large amount of influence on the match. I checked you on op.gg and you have like a 20% win rate in your last 20 matches.

So you either got on a lucky win streak that brought you higher than your skill level and you're dropping back to where you actually belong, or you're on a horrendous tilt and you're playing terribly almost every match

no i dnt even go on big win streak i just win more than i lose, but as of the past two weeks i've just been matched with very awful players, who all just constantly feed and say stuff like "w/e i dnt care" im just saying u see my match history, dnt look at mys core look at my teammates score, look at the ryze who went 1/11 who once he was 0/3 in lane to darius just gave up and blammed jungler that happens tooooo much to ofter. i cant help him and i get punished for it which such a faulty system of mmr.

When I'm in the zone as an ADC and I have a potato support that is causing me to get poked/zoned and is playing like an idiot, they deserve the full LP loss just like any other role.

Supports can roam away from the ADC if they are really holding you back, but in the end, you can't solo carry a team as any champion or role if your teammates don't help you at all.
