Is S9 actually harder to climb..? Or am I just dog doo?

Hey guys,

I am getting really frustrated with this game because of the quality of games I have been getting. Every season since S5 I have reached mid or high diamond, and then stopped playing ranked and only played with friends. This season, however, I struggled to get to D2 (current d3) and on my smurf I am HARD HARD stuck plat 3. Like 40% winrate 200 games.

I know it is very common "i play well every game" "my team always feeds" but like.... is anyone else experiencing super low quality games and having a hard time climbing to the ranks they have been in previous seasons?

Maybe it is because I play adc/sup ? Maybe the duo lane is really weak right now? I dont think that is true, but having a 0-20 top+mid+jg so freaking often is making me hate playing this game.

Let me know how things are going for you guys. :/

I find it funny that when a high elo person says this, everyone rushes to come be supportive and blame the ranked system, blame the quality of games, etc. "There's no way its our fault, WE'RE DIAMOND after all...."

But if a low elo person says this, its "NAH SCRUB ITS ALL YOUR FAULT, GIT GUD SILVER TRASH HAWHAHWAWLOLOLOLHAW HAW DID YA HEAR ME U GUISE I TOLD HIM 2 GIT GUD"

Complaining about literally the exact same thing -- two different results. I would even go as far as to argue this is WORSE in low elo.

The double standard is strong.

its mostly due to extremely broken champions like yuumi pyke and qiyanna having a chance to be on the enemy team, causing the game to become a complete coinflip because of how broken they are, and even if you play well you cannot defy the coinflip set by those champs.

I think it is.

The secret to climbing is actually paying close attention during champion select, and by that I mean looking at what your team is picking, and what the enemy is picking.

If my top lane is playing something that isn't optimal like a Gnar or Nidalee top into something like completely busted top lane, then I'm dodging.

I used to stay in those lobbies, play it out, and it would always end in a loss without fail. Top lane is almost always the one that craps the bed in my games because how strict their meta is, and our jungler usually goes top to roll around in it, exacerbating the situation.

I'm a support main, so the reason I'd stay in those games is because in previous seasons top lane losing didn't really matter much to me as long as they didn't outright feed. But now so many champions up top can easily delete my ADC with the mobility and damage creep. We need the whole team to counter them, and in solo queue that's just not always going to happen.

I've been winning more games again because I've been keeping an eye on top lane and dodging where I see a losing matchup. Sad to see this is where League is, but it is what it is.

The pick and counter meta is really unforgiving generally too, so people who don't play meta champions are punished 10x harder than they were in previous seasons. You have almost no room for error playing against the most picked champions if you're not playing one yourself. Beefy champions just aren't great right now either except for a few like Thresh.

It's much harder. There are a lot of games that are flat out unwinnable unless you're playing the right champion, especially as ADC or tank supports.

You're also probably not shotcalling enough(since normally you don' thave to point out obvious things) and respecting your enemies more than you should.

I found it is much harder than previous seasons. Part of it is because my main role as a tank is in a horrible spot this season, but a bigger reason is it just seems that players have abandoned strategy, and team synergy for damage. I ended up quitting jungle in ranked this season because of lack of map awareness, lack of follow up, lack of game knowledge, lack of strategy. I managed to push pretty fast when I went full damage supports and play like an extra mid Lux ,Brand , Morgana mainly.

yes this season feels a lot more difficult to climb, I have no idea why though.

Technically, it is easier to climb as there are more accounts in higher mmr brackets now compared to any previous season. That being said, the game is much more frustrating to play which is probably what is slowing you down. While I got to diamond on my main much faster this season than previous seasons, it felt much longer and I remember far more bad experiences than in previous seasons. You cannot get attached to any game due to how high the variance is. You just have to move on from each game trusting your abilities will get you to the division you deserve.

The ladder is more frustrating but compare where your accounts are this season and the same point last season.

It definitely got harder.
